Assassin/Ninja In-depth Guide: Cataclysm (2x Lvl 100 Required)

This weapon causes a lot of confusion among wynncrafters.


(consider trying 2x fire T6 and 1x thunder T6, so you get access to Courage)

Most people just try some usual thunder%/sd% build with Cataclysm, suck, get bored and sell it.
I finally got my hands on one, and I feel like I unlocked its true potential with this build.
This build is not cheap, not easy to get (finding a Cataclysm on the market... Getting 2 Qira Master Vouchers...), but if you somehow manage to do it, it is likely you will never sell your Cataclysm again.
Of course there is that goddamn Grimtrap that is just unbeatable in Duels (no @TinaChan you do not count), but Cataclysm may very well be the best assassin weapon out there. And yes, it can be used for PvE as well.

I've used to talk some crap about this weapon, but now I've achieved a higher state of knowledge.

The big HEUREKA here is...
you should always build health when you use Cataclysm. If you go glass cannon, even slightly lean towards a glass cannon build, you will get oneshot by pretty much any end game build there is.
The next big thing is...
You do not need to go for high damage items. I still get up to 29k spins with my build, and I have 9k hp holding my Cataclysm. I tried going full glass; my max spin was 38k. Not worth it. You will still deal enough damage. More than enough.

Therefore I chose items that give me health, elemental defense and thunder damage wherever possible.
Of course while having just enough skill points to use all of them.

The first thing you'll need is a Boreal-Patterned Aegis from The Hive Master Shop.
You guys might already know that I love this chestplate. It has everything any water, thunder or air build wants; 15% damage, 2/4s mana regen, 20% walk speed, very high HP, extremely high elemental defenses and a nice extra 25% reflection. This chestpiece also counters the negative water defense on our boots.
(the powders do not matter; I used this one in my Nirvana build too)

Scorpio. The poison earth/fire boots. I cannot blame you if you did not think about these earlier, but they are just... so good for any Cataclysm build. Let's take a look at the stats.

- Thunder damage? Check.
- Walk Speed? Check.
- High Health? Check. You need this to counter Cataclysm's -hp.
- Earth defense? Check.
- Oh, some nice extra poison to help dealing with agility builds? Check.
- What is this? Thorns? HEY WTF CATA HAS SOME THORNS TOO... maybe we can add them up for a... small cactus effect? ...*evil laughter*...

No further explanation needed. Get Scorpio, it's way too good to pass.

For leggings we're going to use another Hive Master Voucher item, Hephaestus-Forged Greaves.
There is absolutely no balance forged into these pants; 4500hp, 15% thunder damage, 20% walk speed, 250 health regen (extremely good for PvE), ridiculously high elemental defenses and even some mana steal. You will not lose many skill points throwing these in, because Scorpio requires 20 defense anyways.

For helmet, we have to use Morph-Stardust to give us some extra skill points to be able to wear all the items. The mana regen and the elemental defenses go nicely with this build too.

You can use Anima-Infused Helmet, but then Skill points become a problem and you'll need Prowess as your Bracelet (that means you'd need 5 Hive Master items, which is too much for most people). Also, Stardust has the mana regen this build really wants; the fights will drag on.

The accessories are pretty basic.
2x Concentration is the best option for mana; you will need some with the build.
Arc Bracer adds nice thunder damage, skill points to dexterity AND it adds up to your thorns+reflection effect. Cata gave you a small hint about the Thorns, didn't it? C;
Bottled Thunderstorm as the necklace gives you very nice skill points and a nice boost to your thunder damage with no downsides whatsoever.

Skill points: This is going to be a little bit tricky, but do it like this: take 15 dex and 15 agility. Put on Bottled Thunderstorm. Put sp in each element until you have 20/20/20/20/20. Put on Stardust, put on Scorpio. Put on Concentrations. Take 33 dex, 33 int, 33 agility and 33 defense, and put on Hephaestus and Boreal-Patterned. Take 40 dex, put on Arc Bracer. Take 105 dex to use Cata. Take 41 int to get -33% spell costs, and then fill up with agility. With my items on I end up with: 28 str, 105 dex, 41 int, 33 def, 44 agi.

The worst spin I've ever gotten with this build is 5.5k. That's happened about twice. The average spin damage is about 16k, which is still absolutely ridiculous considering you can cast them super quickly. The best I've gotten is 29k.
If you cannot finish your enemy off with spells (agility builds, for example), the poison kicks in, doing decent damage.
You have high walk speed, decent mana, some agility (more than 33% dodge chance), extremely high elemental defenses, health regen, and the huge damage from Cataclysm. While still having 10.5k-7.5k health depending on your Cataclysm. Mine is -5k, in the middle, meaning I have 9k max health.

LONG STORY SHORT:
- Helmet: Morph-Stardust
- Chestplate: Boreal-Patterned Aegis
- Leggings: Hephaestus-Forged Greaves
- Boots: Scorpio
- Rings: Concentration (2x)
- Bracelet: Arc Bracer
- Necklace: Bottled Thunderstorm
- Skill points: around 28/105/41/33/44 with all items on

For your weapons, use Cataclysm as your main, Slider for neutral damage and walk speed, and Streggad when you want to be absolutely disgusting. Use Poison Touch against agility scrubs.
Feel free to carry a Rewind for mana regen and lifesteal whenever needed. Thanks @JaydonTheWarrior for the suggestion!

@PlanetCookie made his own variation for the ultimate PvP-experience. This is most likely the ideal way to duel using Cataclysm, considering he has made many of the most powerful PvP builds out there.

- Stardust
- Boreal-Patterned Aegis
- Hephaestus-Forged Greaves
- Capricorn
- Prism
- Concentration
- Prowess
- Bottled Thunderstorm.

Mount order: Prowess -> Bottled thunderstorm -> Stardust -> Prism -> Hephaestus, Boreal-Patterned -> Capricorn -> Cataclysm. After that take 68 int and put the leftover points to agility.
You will end up with something around 7-8k health and 32/105/68/33/71. Your damage will be the same. Use the same 4 weapons as in my variation above.

This variation will give you more mana and agility in exchange of the poison-cactus effect of my variation. Huge thanks for @PlanetCookie for sharing his masterpiece! Go give him a hug! c:
It's a shame I cannot test in in practise anymore when I sold my Cataclysm.

good jobbbb :3 normally cata builds get one shot kinda due to their lack of health... fighting this one with my weathered build sounds pretty ew .__________. (especially if i do not manage to 2shot it .-. dont want to think about that XD (fkin poison ;_; )) but srsly.. good work here :) i also thought several times about how ppl really shouldnt go glass with cata but i never got serious about it and i never designed a build for it :p i doubt that any build i could have made would be this refined ;) Scorpio did surprise me quite a bit tbh... nice twist to it :D

well unless this class is already 101 then there are because most endgame mobs for grinding have an incredible thunder def so this build isn't good for pve

 

This build eats through almost any amount of thunder defense.

 

even if they have thunder def its still managable... imean hey i survived easily with a chakram on my assassin till level 96 sooooo Cata should REALLY be fine XD

EDIT: I've fought mobs with thunder def so high a max spell black can't break it with a spin attack
and they weren't wybels

 

ikr :3 well oki back then attack speed wasnt fixed yet so it dealt like almost the same as mountain spirit and stuff.. but yeahhhhhhh was quite painful x) but heyyyyyyy at least it felt great when i switched to Weathered... i mean WTF I CAN ONE HIT MOBS °O° ever since then everything feels easy in wynn XD

 

A high spell Black is nothing compared to a Cataclysm.

 

idk i am pretty sure wybel should be pretty easy with this build tbh XD the mana regen makes it feasable (and the health ofc)
