Alright, before i start talking about this "mob," i would like to state that this is a SPECIAL CASE. I normally dont do NPCs, nor do i do "mobs" in towns.
But this particular case is interesting enough where i make a exception.
Anyway, this is the Elven Merchant.
Being of the Elven race, this merchant is quite far from the Elven Capital of Aldorei, which is quite surprising as i known of little to no other cases of any Elves being this far away from home.
In addition, this is a Elven merchant, quite the surprise since the Elves have been shown to despise greed.
But do not attack this rich lad, as he can hit decently hard.
If this is due to using Elven magic or he just hits hard with a liquid emerald is beyond me.
However, let us discuss the possible reason why this elf is here.
    Theory SOCIETY
From what i know about Elven society, it is clear that they have a strong dislike of greed, even though i am sure this is not a universal rule.
However, i believe that the Elven people may exclude those who deal with economics from their society.
I can understand why such a action would be taken, especially due to how the villagers have become much harder to trust due to their greed.
Truthfully, i would love to talk with this elf, to try and see how the elven society works with those who may suffer from greed.
Dont get me wrong, i trust the Elven society, as the alterative has been shown to cause many of the issues in wynn and gavel.
But i am unsure if this potential exclusion is a better option.
Then again, i do know the elves are not always easy to read, which i respect.

    Here's a fact:

If you let a guard kill an Elven Merchant, it drops an LE which you can't pick up.

P.S. Regardless, thanks for the info.

That is possible, but the Elven people seem extremely against greed, it is possible they use magic to make the materials for their homes.
Also, why go halfway across gavel for materials for a grassy village?

lol I was joking but good thought. They wouldn't go to rodoroc just to buy some cobble. But buying something isn't greed, greed is wanting emeralds, not using emeralds!

    That is true.
However, having emeralds can potentially lead to wanting emeralds.
If the elven do try to stop greed in their society as a whole, i dont know another way to prevent it.

    My two bits...
    • A medium of exchange is not greed.
    • A pure barter economy is inefficient.
IRL, there's a religious concept a certain Jewish dude mentioned... "The love of money is the root of many evils." Or something along those lines. Cash isn't the problem. It's making cash, power, wealth, etc. into a "god" that gives birth to greed.

The quests that helped define this aspect of Elvish Culture didn't vilify the value of the holy macguffin, it was wether or not the player gave a damn about the feelings of the NPC who had lost the macguffin and wether or not the player saw the value in generosity and that it was worth more than monetary gain at the expense of others.

A free and ethical economy benefits all parties. That's why both parties in a real world trade thank each other... I got the item I wanted at a fair price and the seller received compensation for making it available to the buyer and giving them the resources they need to then go purchase additional stock and/or to acquire what his/her household needs.

The Elves would see no sin in trade of this sort in my estimation.
