Recently I've been getting very interested in command blocks and how to use them from seeing all the amazing things that you can do with them. So I've spent around the past 2 weeks trying to find tutorials that are fairly recent and explain everything well, but all the tutorials are either most likely outdated or don't explain everything very well. If anyone can give me some tips on learning how to use them that would be very appreciated. Also please leave any youtubers, blogs, or videos that I should look at for tutorials. Thanks!

Play with the commands you have and you should get inspiration.
Many YouTube videos explain how to use certain commands.

That is what I've been trying to do but I don't very know much at all. I just want something that'll give me the very basics. Once I know a bit more than I think I'll start to experiment a bit. But thx for the suggestion anyways!

Trying looking up TheRedEngineer, he is most popular for single-command creations. You can also try some of SethBling's old videos, he doesn't really do Minecraft anymore and when he does it is very, very advanced Redstone stuff. Xisumavoid might have some command block tutorials, I'm not sure. Those are the only YouTubers I can think of off the top of my head, but I don't doubt there are more YouTubers out there.

I only do very advanced red stone and I don't do command blocks but if you can explain to me what you want to do and know what commands to use with the command blocks I can explain a few red stone techniques to create command block contraptions.

I honestly recommend using the Minecraft Wiki for command block information. It is one of the best places to go to understand and learn about what command blocks are and how to use them. YouTube videos and tutorials are alright, but you are just basically copying information for YouTube tutorials. It is much better to find a problem and solve it on your own using the Minecraft Wiki for reference.

I also can't stress enough how important it is to struggle through the problem to try to solve it. It is one of the most efficient ways of learning.

So yeah, Use the Minecraft Wiki, and while YouTube videos are okay, you really shouldn't depend on them.

    I hope this helped!

Command Blocks are awesome, simply put, and there are some really good videos (and channels) to learn from.

First and foremost, I would suggest learning the basics of a the easiest commands, such as /tp, /gamemode, and /say. These commands often have only a few requirements and are easy to learn the basics from. Also, learn about the 1.9-added variations of command blocks (they are relatively simple, but incredibly powerful).

Next is learning parts of commands such as selectors and selector arguments. This video by SethBling, while four years old, is a really good summation of the basic features of command blocks (some outdated parts such as minecraft:stone instead of id 1 and the @e selector though). The wiki and forum posts scattered around the internet is a nice place to find information for individual commands and how to use them.

Once you have a basic grasp of what command blocks do, try to use them as much as you can. Getting better comes with experience, and that is an incredibly important concept. Most people often give up making a certain contraption because it gets hard. That's okay, because it teaches you how far you can currently go with commands, and completing said contraption is a good goal to set for the future.

Doing these will ensure you can reach the point where you can fully understand what command block youtubers are talking about in contraptions.

I'd also suggest watching older videos, even if they are horribly outdated. 1.7+ is when command blocks become significant (/summon and /setblock were introduced), so tutorials generally start around there with /summon tutorials and such. (to be fair, the 1.4 original command blocks made Herobrine's Mansion work, so they are fully capable of a lot)

You should reach a certain point where you will understand exactly how a contraption works from simply seeing it work (for most contraptions, the Atari 2600 emulator is clearly witchcraft). That is the point where tutorials for all but a few commands are no longer necessary.

Some key features that you want to know in the advanced level is /execute, dataTags, /scoreboard, and selectors (and specifications with the selectors). Also, command block structuring (and what makes a one-command block contraption work) are stuff you want to know if you plan on making those.

Lastly, some helpful tools that I wish I knew about when I started command blocking:
    • MCStacker - Helps a LOT with getting datatags right.
    • MinecraftJSON - Helps make /tellraw commands.
    • MrCrayfish's Model Creator - Awesome free tool for making 3D models.
    • /entitydata @e[r=2,type=!Player] {} in a command block - gets the datatag from an existing entity
    • MCEdit - More known than the others, but awesome for editing stuff at large (and deleting that one repeating command block with /kill @e)

For most Basic purposes, Jragon's channel should help you learn how the whole "custom items" thing works, as well as a few other things.

3D models....good luck. that's an area that nobody explains a lot.

Also...Jragon has a weebly site with every basic command you would want to use.

Link to it is here: http://jragoncommands.weebly.com/tutorials.html

That will take you down the list about everything you need to know to get started...and I mean everything, down to the right click detection.
