At first I thought that the set would be great for exp/loot bonuses with up to 33% on all 3 pieces, and thinking the set bonuses would further increase the bonuses.

However, after finding that the set 'bonus' is -25%/-50%/-75% with the pieces to both exp and loot, it seems like very counter-intuitive, with each piece being only able to give +8% to exp/loot if they're maxed out.

So, what is the purpose of the set, and why does anyone ever buy pieces of the set? (especially since having less than average pieces would give you negative exp/loot bonuses)

The reason it's called "Jester" is cause it's variable - You're tossing the IDs around and they might be a buff or debuff.

@Thaecrasis Some of the buffs (200 raw melee, spell damage raw) are used for builds, and the raw reward buffs aren't that bad either.

The set still gives many desirable bonuses. The only Jester Items that sell are the ones that have a decent Loot Bonus & XP Bonus.

raw melee, raw spell damage? I've never seen those on any jester pieces before - I've only seen the ones listed on the Item Guide (life steal on ring, mana steal on necklace, poison on bracelet)

I've put them on before and only gotten the negative exp/loot set bonuses - never saw any other ones, unless they're hidden stats

if you have noticed, the jester rings can go up to 33% xp, but when you put 2 jester rings on it only takes away 25% as the set bonuses, so the second ring gets off scot free. thats what i always liked about the set

The set bonuses were added because people had around 200% xp bonus wearing ONLY the Jester accessories back in around January.
Wearing 2 pieces gives you raw melee boosts and 3 pieces gives raw spell damage, it's balanced as it is and usually used for specific builds.

Put on a Jester Ring + Bracelet and look at the set bonus, then put on the Necklace, and look again, it has those buffs (:
