Talking Mushroom?

I've seen a few posts about how people are doing things with the "talking mushroom" and how it's triggering some things... Can somebody inform my brain hole about this (without spoilers) please?

EDIT: I guess I'm mainly asking questions like, "what is it?" "Is it an item?" "How do you get it?"

I really like figuring things out on my own, but when I see a post like the ariodos lab one, I go crazy because I feel like I'm being left out of something big and I really can't handle being left out of something.

and now everybody has lost their minds trying to solve it

Yeah that post is what made me ask about it... I didn't read much from it, only enough to know there's something to do with a talking mushroom and the cowfusion lab.

Oh wait it's not that lab? Oh uhh, then whatever lab they are at in that one post. I'm posting from my 4 year old phone right now, so it's a bit hard for me to do anything fast (I.e. Get info off the wiki, type names in correctly due to autocorrect screwing me up)

EDIT: oohhh... Ariodos lab, the one in the jungle, with the mind switching quest. Yeah I remember now, dunno why I thought it was veekhats lab...

Omg please you're making things even more confusing please I just need to know about the talking mushroom, like how was it discovered, how do you get it.... This is making me go mad, please just inform me about this.

 

It's originally a quest item from the quest "Recipe for Disaster", but it triggers many hidden dialogues on the map.

Yup. I got a full caps hate message from it at maro peaks. Ive not seen it freak Out that Much since I picked it up...

 

what does it say

 

In the quest Recipe for Disaster, you can choose from 3 different chefs to make a dish. You need to go and get 3 ingredients from around the Sky Islands, depending on the chef you choose. If you want to grab the Talking Mushroom, you might choose the chef Kale.
He gives these instructions:

• Kale: Lastly you need a [Talking Mushroom] which is found on the swamp Sky Island.
• After looking at your map, you conclude that you need to go to [1100,124,-4869] to obtain the [Talking Mushroom].

Having the Talking Mushroom in your inventory while you explore certain areas can trigger dialogue. Some examples of this are:

• The Ender Portal by Ternaves
• Maro Peaks
• Ariodo's Lab
