I prefer a trusted GM to answer this (cause like details and all).

I never really knew certainly how the two identifications work, and I want an answer to what is the actual difference between thorns and reflection. I have doubts that thorns only affect melee attacks -- so that's what made me end up asking this question -- just to confirm, really.

don't hate me for this, just curious

Unless something changed, Thorns is for Melee attacks and Reflection is for ranged attacks and spells.

What exactly does the percentage value mean, then? Is it the chance that it'll reflect damage, or the percentage of damage reflected?

Here are more questions about thorns and reflection if you care to listen. Responding will be a great help, though.

    1. Can you explain why there is both thorns % and reflection %, what are the real differences? Why not keep one and delete the other?

    2. Does reflection % overwrite thorns % if it fails? I assume it does not. But I feel the criteria to activate both thorns % and reflection % can be the same if I am not mistaken.

    3. And from what I had seen, thorns % also affects spells, but I thought it only affects melee attacks. Is this a bug, is it intended, or do I have this all wrong?

    (Thanks!)

    1. There's probably both the thorns and reflection id for balancing reasons, just one cactus id on some items might be a lil' too good in some situations. + It makes for more variety.
    2. There's not a single attack in the game which it effects both for as far as I´m aware. There's not really a golden rule to know which one is the one you need, the main guideline is: ranged attacks are for reflection and melee attacks are for thorns. But if you wanna know it all, testing it out and learning the results is the best way.

(Although I don't believe anybody has actually full-out tested it and shared the test results. Might be worth getting 5 people, a mage, an archer, an assassin and another assassin (I think that the assassin should be the doubled one because the armor value of assassin = 100%

We might wanna put that in the planning parlour.)

archers melee attack is ranged, but it gets effected by thorns. (I believe.) I've also heard that poison gets effected by poison, which is a ranged attack in my eyes.

    3. It might be that something like multihit would be registered on thorns, since it´s kind of a melee attack. I´d like to test it.
