Official Event The Great Item Naming Contest: Results!

Well, after two weeks and 28 pages of submissions, the first Great Item Naming Contest has concluded, and what a first shot it was. Almost every submission had at least one name worth checking when you weren't running "Potato" through Latin in Google Translate. Picking a favorite was super tough, honestly, but thanks to the help of the other content team members I've whittled it down to the top nine. There was a super hard choice though for first place and the runner-up!


1st Prize Winner:

@Cruuk-huud with Grillface!

It's a bit of a silly one but everyone loved it. I just couldn't not pass this one up, I immediately thought of Hannibal Lector's face mask, and while there was a bit of a heated debate as to how this could possibly be an item, it won over in the end.

2nd Prize Winners:

I'll be totally honest I only picked this one at first as an honourable mention simply due to the irony of the statement, but the content team absolutely LOVES the name! I have to wonder if the irony wasn't lost on them! Seeing how much love it got, it was really tough to pick between Anarchy and Grillface.

A lot of names are good as just single words, though there are obviously exceptions to that. Oyster as an item just fit too perfectly, it was rather charming! Hopefully this'll be a nice little pearl of an item.

This one was chosen on a similar prospect as Belcon and Relfect. Just, cool-sounding fake words that sound familiar but aren't...wait, is it fake? I didn't bother looking it up, actually.

I'm not really sure exactly what I'm going to end up doing with this one, but it sounded cool enough to make me feel bad passing it up and much more understated than those huge, edgy names that would fit right along with this.

Wait, what? PetriCHOR? Oh, well that's probably why I picked this one. Plus it's got some good connotations and leeway for creativity, landing this shout-out-looking portmanteau at our very last open pick!

The Albedo Effect is how light reflects off regions depending on their colour. It's the reason Antarctica hasn't melted, it's white colour reflects nearly all the light and energy away from it. That's why I thought it would be a Fire/Air helmet :0

My main inspiration for "Grillface" is actually from a Minecraft mod, in which a mob named "Grillface" has the power to actually jumpscare you with a special screen effect and scary noise and everything.

You'd be shocked. 28 pages doesn't take that long to go through. If I saw a name that caught my eye, I put it in a list of favorites to be whittled down and chosen later. If I didn't see any interesting names in a post, I moved on.
