True, i always thought powders could be the chi of some really magical beings. Perhaps the conflict between the light and darkness included some powerful being of immense power. The crystals or powders could be what the beings look like when they die or the whats left over of their chi. You could have the beings soul within the Crystal as well. When Adamal used the crystals, he could have been possessed by the beings mind.

Point being, we use the bodys of powerful beings for our weapons, and the king killed four very powerful beings, or maybe he destroyed killed them at all. He could have used the crystals after you left...

If I recall correctly, the fable in The Fortuneteller talks about the dragon Farcor punishing the people in the area now known as Sky Isles by breaking apart the land, though my memory may be false....
