"Relive your worst memories, then starve. That's where we start. Sound good?"

 

"Seems like low-end Shadow level. Like if you haven't paid your bills." Stephanie says.

 

"Oh, you won't be empowered. Nothing to save you from death if you make us overreact."

 

"I wasn't empowered in the realm of shadows either." Stephanie says.

"Can I get in on this to test how bad you actually are?" Shadow Stephanie asks, appearing next to Stephanie.

 

"Well, you're not dead, so they clearly held back. And you're the shadow queen, aren't you? No, you'll get to see Stephanie's childhood. I doubt we can perturb the queen of a race stereotyped to be genocidal demons."

 

"Oh, we killed her, in many ways; we just have...ways...of repeating the process." Shadow Stephanie says.

Stephanie falls to the floor, unconscious.

"You know, uh, on second thoughts, I have some stuff to do." Shadow Stephanie says, disappearing.

 

Stephanie's forced awake, finding herself chained to a wall.
"Ah, another one? I was hoping I could retire..." A frustrated voice echoes through the cold room.
"At least grace me with your name before I start looking into your beautiful past. We'll see how slow you bleed out from there."

 

"H-Huh? Where am I?" Stephanie says, struggling.

 

"You're in the torture chamber, hon. The shadow queen decided she didn't want to revisit your childhood."

 

"W-What? Shadow Queen? W-Why am I in a torture chamber?" Stephanie asks.

 

"You said you'd rather be tortured in the realm of shadows than be in our city, so our leader figured we'd compromise; you'd be tortured in our city. You didn't seem scared, either."

 

"What? I-I didn't say that!" Stephanie says, tears starting to run down her face out of fear, "I-I don't know how I even got here!"

 

"Well, it's better than being dead, hon. You can take a minute to let your legs go numb before I start, but we'll take a looksee into your past."

 

"Please! I didn't want to return here! I don't know how I did!" Stephanie says, sobbing.

 

"Must've been possessed. Poor girl, I think being here is just enough. Let me know when you can tell us your perspective."

 

Stephanie just sobs, her tears dotting the floor.

 

Her chains fall off.
"I'm going to go file the thing that says I quit. Stay here."

 

Stephanie just curls up on the floor, crying.

 

Minutes later, the torturer returns.
"Can ya talk yet?"

 

"Y-Yes..." Stephanie says, shaken.
