well in doubles the only way I could use muddy water from swampert is by doing a combo with talonflame's fly and that's a bit too complicated

 

I was thinking more on defensive abilities like Lightning Rod to neuter your attacks

 

good idea but most lightning rod pokemon have fatal weaknesses to ground or water both of which swampert perfectly covers

 

Yeah but you're starting out with Luxray, and since its not doubles you won't be able to play Swampert unless you switch which lets me switch as well
