"So what did kill you?" I ask.

 

"One of my... I guess you could call them siblings. He destroyed us all by killing our... I guess you could also call her mother. That killed the rest of us... except him, as he had somehow managed to survive."

 

"...What?" I ask, confused.

 

"And who exactly is this Hive Master?” I ask, pulling out my journal.

 

"He's some evil freak bent on enslaving everyone in his lust for power. He's been trying to destroy our homeworld for generations now."

 

"Oh? Interesting."

 

"In other words, complicated things happened."

 

"So...your brother...killed your mother who killed you?" I ask, befuddled.

 

"No, my 'brother' killed my mother, and I died because of that."

 

"No, he's absurd. He'd try to enslave you as well. And before you think that wouldn't go well - so did our gods."

"I hope the situation is still salvageable... If it's irredeemable, I'd rather you give me up to them than try to find a nonexistent 'other way' of solving this."

 

"Ah, I have no intention of going toe to toe against him...yet. If possible, I would merely do some research on this 'Hive Master' and his background."

 

"He won't wait for you to feel like going against him. If you want to do some research on him, well... I don't know if you'll get far at all."

 

"How come?"

 

"Go yourself, and the only information you get is what kinds of attacks he'll throw your way. Send others, and the only information you'll get is that they're not working for you anymore." Rineth grumbles.
"In all honesty, if he sees you as a threat, you have as many problems as we do. As much as we need any help we can get, it's likely in your best interest to preserve your kingdom."

 

"For now." I mutter, drawing a sketch on Rineth.

 

"I just don't want on your bad side. We can't afford to be fighting on that many fronts."

"I'd hate to make you angry, mister Terrae." Ihra adds, shuddering.

 

"Fighting on multiple fronts is the epitamy of nightmare." I grumble.

 

"So it would seem you understand our struggle."
"Wait... That doesn't make sense. Doesn't the Hive Master fight on every front at once, just about?" Ihra asks.
"From a tactical standpoint, since he has the resources, it's in his best interest to spread his enemies' resources thin." Xephyr adds.

 

"Why did you die? Did your mother self-destruct?" I ask.

 

"A pretty good tactic, I must say. However, if I were in his place, I would just go for the decisive blow as quickly as possible. In the longer run, it's more effective to make quick, short, and deadly strikes rather than to try to starve the enemy out."
