Spell Damage For Different Spears

I have this legendary level 70 spear that deals around 200 damage per hit and has normal attack speed. When I have it in my hotbar and check my compass, it says all my spells deal 200-400 damage, which seems normal. I also have this basic pure andesite spear that deals about 225 base damage per hit but has a very slow attack speed. The wierd thing is that when I look at my stats in the compass with this basic spear in my hotbar, it says my spells deal 500-800 damage. why do my spells deal over double damage when I use this basic level 63 spear as opposed to my awesome level 70 legendary spear? Is the game just balanced so that basic spears deal more spell damage proportional to their attack or is this a glitch? the basic spear has no powders and deals no elemental damage while the legendary spear has one blue powder and deals water, thunder, and neutral damage.

 

I'm pretty sure that spell damage is just your neutral. I have a bomb arrow that does like 50 neutral and 3k water and that's what it says on the compass.

 

The compass is fucked up.
Don't trust it.
Run some tests for yourself in-game.

the compass is wrong, its going off the old system, not accounting attack speed nor ids on the weapon, just base dmg
