I didn't know much, all I can give you all right now is that it's at X -1360 Z -1660, theres a cave next to the shadow of the beat cave where you have to throw a emerald through a map and break pots around the room, then a door opens above the cave entrance, I hope this helps until Lei updates the the thead

 

HOW did he find it, the fact that it's in the dark forest is quite suspicious

 

So first, I didn't know anything about the observational tower from the old quest, that's why I didn't search around thesead. My logic is it's a big lab to hide, and both of them are near mountain range, that's why I search around mountain range. And I check this cave, decide to throw a emerald in to the map which give the first hint. It's one of those thing you decide to do and have no explanation.

 

"Into the map" you mean a hopper?

 

The hopper is block by a map in the item frame, good ol' classica hopper behind map.
