Why Is Special Charged Up By Melee?

I feel like its kinda stupid that the special is charged up only by melee, making some classes godly and some trash (water = trash, fire/earth = godly) I think it should also be charged up by spells, but not as much :D

Or is there a special reason its only melee

 

It's to force you to strategize and actually use your melee attack. It's an indirect spell nerf and melee buff, but it hardly makes water builds abysmal, since armor specials are passive.

I mean, water already has an insane special for spellcasting. And as far as I know, the special only counts the number of melee hits, not how much melee damage is dealt.

 

Correct. It only takes a few seconds of melee hits to charge your special anyway; the amount it charges per hit depends on attack speed, so Super Slow weapons take only a few swings to charge while Super Fast require a bunch.
