Dwarves Vs Zombies - Unofficial Discussion Thread!

Dwarves VS zombies.
A classic Minecraft PVP Game, that is slowly dying with the overtake of good games like Warlords and UHC, to crappy 10-year-olds-scream-at-you-that-you-hack easy games on Mineplex.
But either way, it's still a classic.

I personally always loved Rob's DVZ, but some may disagree and say Bruce's (Robs new dvz, Bruce is Rob's roleplay name, I'm just gonna call his new dvz "Bruces DVZ") is better. The reason I love Rob's DVZ is you can get classes such as Alchemist, Blacksmith, Builder, Baker, Tailor and Lumberjack. The classes system puts a ton of interactivity into the game, and adds that extra feel to the game.

Bruce's DVZ is a bit simpler, with many different weapon combo choices you can go for, and it's a bit harder to prepare for, but still being fun. It's easier to learn this DVZ than Rob's DVZ, simply because it's very simplistic: Mine for armor, Get blocks and Mortar, and build the walls.
Mortar is an item that, before the Monsters are released, creates a really hard to break stone block. When the monsters release at Midnight, mortars no longer make the blue hard-to-break blocks. They make regular stone blocks.

The main idea of the game is to build the dwarves' walls up to protect their Shrine(s). The Shrines, once overtaken by monsters, or killing all of the dwarves, will make the dwarves lose. The dwarves have to protect these shrines by, in the beginning, building walls before Midnight, or after Midnight, PVPing Monsters.
There's different ways to make dwarves die to have monsters for the monster attack, such as an Assassin who betrays the dwarves, a dragon, a wither, or a plague which is like a game of Infection.
The game ends when, by choice of the DVZ creator, the dwarves survive for 1 hour or the monsters take all shrines.

RawTechDVZ was a good DVZ server made by a famous YouTube DVZ player. Unfortunately it shut down due to no one donating, but it had some fun DVZ spinoffs.
UberMC's is gross. Like, seriously. It's over crowded, confusing, and cheesy. All you have to do is stay in the shrine room with the rest of the dwarves and you can't die.
LihP's is a version of Rob's DVZ (Rob's got shut down a while ago) and uses classes. When I first joined, it was just DVZ, but they have a ton of fun DVZ spinoff games like a Dwarves Survival where you play Survival w/ Raiding but using the Dwarves VS Zombies plugin. Unfortunately, LihP is slowly dying.

Oh hey it's a thread about dvz woo
I won't mention shitty remakes of dvz other than the original one since they're all really subpar in my books. Rob's dvz is still the "best" version around.

I used to play this game avidly for 2 years when I had nothing to do with my life, hell, I met most of my current friends (and lover for that matter) on dvz, so I'm really glad for that. It was a really fun and wacky game to play and back then there was a little bit of freedom on what you could do before the inevitable happened.

I quit playing after the last Christmas Update, when Rob pushed this idea that "Well this game is off putting to casual players" and consequently made changes to try and make the newer casuals to stay such as :

• You automatically drink your juice
• If you're a full health and a great damage output would kill you, you use all your mana to heal to full
• Monsters cannot upgrade and don't drain health / mana / armour as fast
• Introduction of Swords Of Sanctifications, an item that you can upgrade to instant kill most mobs if you're in a pinch

That, and the general direction that Rob wanted the game to go, which basically made mobs completely useless and unable to kill jimmies who didn't bother learning the game (and by extension making dwarves even more overpowered and boring as a result) made me quit the game some time ago.
Oh, and the fact that Rob is kind of a douche when it concerns criticism on the official subreddit too.

But heh, I still have a lot of fond memories of this game :P

Don't usually post on the forums, but I figured I would for DVZ... Its always been pretty fun, even back in the old stream days. I think it was good that it moved on from the original personally, but I still have lots of memories in the old DVZ. Too bad it is slowly dying with Rob doing Urealms and all. Also, unless I'm reading your post wrong, Rob and Bruce are the same person. Rob has always run the actual DVZ, although it has gone from server to server ( I'm excluding the knockoff DVZ's, they don't count ). Anyways, its cool to know that people on the forums here play DVZ.

 

Don't think they are. Rob's version is a lot different, so unless he completely revamped it, no, they are not.

 

Yeah I'm not positive I guess, but I am basing this off the fact that the old streams have like the same person commentating on them. Like if you watch the old streams, and the new streams, its the same person talking. Actually there was a new DVZ video if you haven't seen it... They don't really play the game though, they just mess around.

Yeah that's true. It changed so much they might as well be made by different people. Good talking to you about DVZ though. :)

 

What about buffalowizards?
Its interesting... Even if it doesn't have as many people get on. (I think its like 40 - 100)?

 

I can confirm that Bruce Willakers is just a character that Rob made since he likes to role play.

 

The count usually hovers around 40-70 on weekdays now. It's a bit more difficult to get a game going come nighttime here in the U.S.

 

That's Bruces DVZ. But as @Infernoshadowcla mentioned, the are the same person.

 

I used to play it when it was on mindcrack, but afterwards I quit.

 

It's now on Buffalo Wizards.

 

Speaking of BW DVZ, what are your guys' strats for fighting as a dwarf in Buffalo Wizards (Bruce's DVZ)?
I personally stand on the walls and shoot my bow until the monsters penetrate the walls. Once the walls have been penetrated I usually move back to protect the first shrine. This strategy works extremely well on Mt Willakers because of it's maze like stronghold.
