They're just opening it bit by bit until the next big update, or maybe after that, when they'll release the main questline which will involve the door of Time and more.

The use will be to start everything over again, just like a certain procedurally generated game.
EDIT: ok so nobody understand that this is sarcastic, so i'm putting this here: it's sarcasm.

the last part is a sarcastic poke at how when you "complete" the game by reaching the Galactic core, it resets you in a new galaxy, up to a maximum of 255 times. This sucks because the Center was promised as something "amazing", not a NG+ feature.

 

I don't play No Man's Sky, and I don't think I ever will, it's not interesting to me.

 

I don't think that going through the door of time would reset all classes because that would piss too many people off and salted wouldn't want that

 

right, that has nothing to do with anything, so let's not turn this in to a flamewar about NMS, k?

Holy shit I just had a huge propaganda idea pop in my head. So the gameplay update is 1.14 and the so called corkus update is 1.15 and in the "update" the time changes to a zombie apocalypse instead of the medieval style. And what if the time door leads to the future with corkus and all that!? Don't know if it's true just popped in my head and thought BOOM!

 

HE told us about a day later the Jamulamawama's item was fake

 

It'll most likely be used as an endgame quest of some sort, is my guess.

 

That's pretty much exactly what I said when I said it'll be part of the main questline. So, I agree.

Now let's just move on and not clutter this thread any more.

They're gonna add main quest storyline about time... Not very soon.
