So a lot of people are arguing about the new SP system, so I quickly stuffed together a comparison.

The Old System (2-Soul Point System)

    Pros:
    * You have four chances before you promptly lose everything.
    * Scrolls add less pressure to you, as the "safe zone" is a broad range from 3-15 SP.

    Cons:
    * Once you deplete to 2 SP or less, you have to stop going out an explore as you have a chance of dying once again and losing everything in your possession.
    * Scrolls are literally unusable.
    * Once you get stuck in wall and you have <2 SP, well RIP you, as there is some chance a ranged mob will kick your ass.
    * Horses and Mythics. They are automatically bye-bye'd if you die at <2 SP.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The New System (5-Soul Point system)
(sorry guys for tagging you multiple times. there was a mix up ;3;)

    Pros:
    * You, if below 5 SP, do lose some of your items, but not all.
    * Dying at <2SP will also net you a loss a MAJORITY of your items, but not all. Woo.
    * Horses will not drop, ever! (Courtesy of @MajesticMaj)
    * Scrolls do not affect your SP and the loss of your items! (Courtesy of @WithTheFish and @Jbip)

    * Back to the stuck scenario. If you, went out exploring at <2 SP, KNOWING THAT YOU HAVE A CHANCE OF LOSING YOUR ITEMS, that is your problem. Your carelessness.

If you do not want to lose any items, then don't go to any places where being stuck is a part of a hazard. Actually, if you have <5 SP, do not go out exploring, if losing some of your items is a concern to you. If you can man up with it, off you go.

Control your self, a'ight? I assume you all have full, at least SOME control over your actions.
    Know what I am saying?

    * You now have a complete list of items you lose when you die.
I have had one of those moments I got killed by a PMI during SP farming. I lost so much that I couldn't even keep track.
But now the new system tells you what items you lost! Hopefully you do not get this message:

[Soul Point] You have died at less than 3 soul points! 80% of your emeralds were lost, along with 100% of your junk items. 3 Sky Reflectors, 1 Wind Mimic and 1 Pure, 1 Az, 1 Stratiformis, 1 Grandmother and 1 Taurus were also lost during your death!

    :VVV:V:VV:V:V:VVV:V:V::V::V

    Cons:
    * Literally none! Aside from the fact that you, have to wait till 7 SP if you do not want to lose SOME of your items. (Courtesy of @Jbip)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My opinion is this. The new system kind of puts on a challenge to players. As a wise forum cow said:

"Self-preservation is more important than getting another kill in terms of grinding".

The old system put on the pressure of "let's get around this place till i have 2 SP", but the new system is like this: "explore all u want but i have to learn to control myself to preserve my items" mood.

This puts on challenge to players, even at low levels. Personally, I love challenges, and I am sure a lot of other people do.

So let's chill and not have a debate over this guys. You guys will get used to it as fast as you can say "Stratiformis".

Anyway, did this change your mind? Post your opinions below!

    TL;DR

    Old system:
Implied meaning: "u can do anything till your sp drops to 2". when u die everything will be lost

    New System:
Implied meaning: "u have to be more careful; learn to control yourself".
When you die at <5SP, you will lose your items but not all. Only some of your emeralds and junk items but nothing of value should be dropped

Didn't Salted say that scrolls wouldn't affect this? I personally like a challenge also. I always felt like the soul point system was too easy to cheat.

You won't lose any items when scrolling, confirmed by Salted.
Anyways, I have nothing against this new system, it looks good. Can't see why a lot of people hate it

Well, the only sad thing I can see is if someone is stuck, he has to wait until he has 7+ SP if he doesn't want to MAYBE lose an item. That's it.

I agree with you, and I feel like most people that are complaining about it haven't tried it entirely so they don't understand that this system is actually an improvement, there might be some adjustments in the future, but still it's not as bad as you guys make it out to be.

Also I want to point out that it actually tells you the items you lose when you die.

Btw, according to Lotem on the changelog, you CAN lose items higher than 5 sp, BUT you only drop a few junk items and emeralds.
And I'm completely for this new system. It's the one thing that isn't good about the new update... but it isn't bad either. It's just a change. And like the 1.12 bow rework, we can deal with it, even after a month of complaining.

I'm not as against it as I am confused that they spent time making it. Just doesn't feel entirely necessary.

Who carries around 4 mythics? And wtf kinda person are you to carry around mythics that don't even fit in with each other (in terms of elements)?
I think this is one of the most helpful threads about the new SP system. Others are just rant, rant, rant.
There are still too many of these threads tho

Another pro to the 5 point system is that it indirectly increases potion use and money spent on pots since people will be more afraid of dying :D

Tbh, the soul point system is great. It adds more challenge to Wynn starting out, but in the higher levels (and most of the people complaining are higher level) soul points won't really matter. That's just my opinion, but I think it's cool
