I might sound really biased in this, because I've done tons of GM apps, but I'd like this to be done. This is not a rant and I'll try to be as nice as possible while writing this.

Right now, when making a GM application, you are typing into a tiny box what your quest is about. The problem with this is that only you are the one who knows the quest's full potential. Looking at your app in your eyes, it looks like the best quest ever. Someone else may proofread your app and see your quest differently. Your quest could be an epic battle in the mental image that you create, however someone else's mental image of your quest will be less impressive. Thus, if your quest has a less impressive mental image in the mind of the person grading your GM app, you'll get denied because they are imagining the quest differently.

This is different with Trial GM. If you are a trial GM, you get the full experience and you can actually show just how impressive you picture your quest to other GMs. This makes GM apps extremely hard, and then you never even get a chance to see if you really even like being a GM.

I hope you see what I'm saying here. TL DR, the GM apps are harder to grade than the GM Trial itself. I feel GM Trials should be harder and GM apps should be accepted more often. Thanks.
    ~ Oryx / Terezi

PS. Please do not argue in a mean way. I want to hear your opinions, but please don't go "Stop being so selfish you stupid idiot". I would like to also hear opinions from current GMs.

    (currently unpopular opinion)

If you want the GMs to see your vision of the quest, maybe you need to explain it better, that box is anything but tiny in my eyes.

Besides, if GM trials were more commonly, then that could mean more people could potentially see what's coming in later updates. I doubt that would happen, but keep in mind that generally most people that I hear about pass their trial if they put effort into it. I'm just a player though, a GM could probably say more about this topic than me.

While it may be difficult, the point of writing GM apps instead of 'building' them, is to be able to describe in detail what the quest will be like, so as to facilitate it's creation. I agree with Fish here, you should be able to describe your idea before you can realize it.

If you just have an idea and image in your head, you'll find that making a quest in-game is rather difficult. This applies to pretty much anything, at least in MC building/creating.

I sent in my GM app around a week ago. With it, in the "anything else" section I added an unlisted 8-minute YouTube video I made with a full description of the cave, some key mechanics of the quest I made, and a visualization of the items made using a Wynncraft Item Generator I found on scratch (massive credits to whoever made that, don't remember). Headset saw it and told me it was a creative idea to do the video and I had a better app then most people.

Remember that GM apps also checks your writing skills, so if you can't describe how your quest would be then maybe we just discovered the reason why your apps are being rejected.

When I, personally, look at a GM application, the main part I look for is dedication. Someone who has written things in detail, and do so in a 'formal' way, gets a better score than someone with low detail, in my mind.

After that, comes the general idea of a quest concept, and how well they work with design (which shows in the mob cave part). Someone who has a very good idea, that really gets me going, has a much higher potential of receiving a good score from me.

Let me put it this way. When I read a quest in a GM app, I can say that I can tell the difference between a good concept, and a bad one. I can't say I am the most experienced GM, however, I think I know what could work, and what couldn't.

In my opinion it's fine the way it is. I know that GM-app-questideas always seem more "epic" in ones own imagination, but the point of writing an app is to show the one reading it what it is, without them having to interpret something.

I think one of the most important poinst of gamedesign in general is to build up the story, and make the player experience it in the same way you imagined it. The closer those two are, the better the quest will be.

My quest idea involves gathering 6 items that are all painful to get, combining them to extract a dead guys soul, and forcing you to find two other players to work with to open a door. I know exactly how to make it work like it does in my imagination. Am I a GM now?

Great Dialogue: How about some scrambled text like the &k thing? That'll keep the player interested! And also a ton of ...'s will be perfect!
A perfect lore: This guy had a friend who died and he wants you to go check on his grave. Spectacular!
Amazing Climax: You check the grave, find that everything is perfectly normal, and report back to the guy. You can't get much more climactic than that!
I think I'm gonna nail this application.
