I got the resource pack loaded and working, but trying to play with the resource pack loaded lags Minecraft out for me like crazy. I only have 8GB of ram on my machine, and I allocated 4GB of that to Minecraft, but it's still lagging so much it makes the server unplayable.

I'm using a gaming laptop I just got this year. Is this server playable with only 4GB of ram allocated to Minecraft?

8 GB should be more than enough for Minecraft. I currently use 12, but I have used 8 GB before and it worked completely fine.

So if RAM's not the problem, what could be causing the lag?

I dedicate 1gb to mc and set my max fps too 100 so my gpu isn't at full load, I always stay at 99-100 with the texture pack, What's your specs?

What are your specs for your computer?
    Motherboard
    GPU(graphics card)
    CPU(Processor)
    You already said ram.
    OS(operating system)
Also how much FPS do you get on regular Minecraft?

    Acer Aspire VN7-591G
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M
Intel Core i7-4720 HQ 2.60 GHz
Windows 10 (but I'm running regular Minecraft, not W10 edition)
60-ish? It varies wildly from 42-116, usually between 54-76.

Now that I'm testing things, it seems like another 32x texture pack kills my FPS too...

My max FPS is set to 60 right now. I turned it down from 120. With Vsync on I only get 20 or 30. I've got Optifine installed, so I changed a bunch of things to make it run faster. I even turned down the render distance to 6 chunks, though I can't imagine that would help with the FPS drop in the top menu...

    Keep vsync off.
I'm going to show you something that helped me a few days ago so follow the video that I just made.

Let me know if it works, if it doesn't then try updating your drivers if you need help with that I can show you.

Well, that kind of helped... I'm up to 5-10 FPS from 0 FPS. Unless another player shows up nearby. Any other settings in the NVDIA control panel you recommend fixing? I haven't really looked at that menu before now. When you mentioned Vsync I thought you meant in the Minecraft control panel.

My drivers are up to date, I just checked.

I haven't messed around with it that much I was just recommended to do that by a friend of mine it helped me a bit, but I am not sure if there is much more in the menu, and your motherboard and cpu drivers are good?

I just Googled the best NVDIA settings for performance, changed all my Minecraft settings to that, and now it's working fine.

    Thanks for the help!
