"Well, I won't ask if you're not willing to tell me. Unless you want me to persist on asking you, in which case you have a reason to answer to not be strange. A little birdy told me that's a thing with humans."

 

"So you're really a demon?" Stephanie asks.

 

"No, I'm not human."

 

"What exactly are you then?" Stephanie asks.

 

"A scientist."

 

"Of what species?" Stephanie asks.

 

"Not important. But I'm not a demon, and I'm not a human."

 

"Oh. I guess appearances can fool." Stephanie says.

 

"Well, we are in a mind. I'd be surprised if you can turn your hand into a cat without reading through a spell or something."

 

"It's just imagination. I imagined my hand was a cat, it's really that simple." Stephanie says.

 

"Yes, but the point is that you've only seen me inside a mind, so of course appearances wouldn't be accurate."

 

"I've kept my appearance; I don't see why you'd need to hide yours." Stephanie says.

 

"Because I don't have a physical one."

 

Stephanie pauses.

"Oh. So you're like a spirit?" She asks.

 

"If that's how you want to think of it, then sure. I also figured you'd be more comfortable talking to Thirteen, for obvious reasons. That information is courtesy of Abigail, by the way."

 

Stephanie turns red, "Oh, well, I mean, we're not really dating anymore." She says.

 

"Something about how he's made? I know that a lot of robots aren't capable of loving, even ones that are sent out to live on their own."

 

"I'd rather not talk about it." Stephanie says.

 

"Alright."

 

Stephanie just looks around, unsure what to say.
