Lore/Story The Light - Part 2 Released!!!!!!!!!!

Could it be? A new story? Yes it is! This is a new story I am writing that I will probably release in a few parts. This is part 1, chapters 1 - 4. The finished product it planned to be 11 chapters. It is a (sort of) realistic story set in the Province of Gavel. Well, enjoy! And please post your thoughts in the comments!

Spoiler: Chapter 1

Chapter 1
In the Decay

I woke up. I got out of bed, and took my armor off the shelf. I got my bow out of its round, wooden case that hung on my wall. A beautifully crafted bow, with endless mythis of the past trapped inside the string. I called it “Freedom.” My most prized possession it was. When I held it, I felt proud, it gave me a thunder to my walk. Anyway, I went downstairs of our house found my parents having a loaf of bread. I had breakfast and went outside to our ramshackle town.


Olux. My home. My parents couldn’t afford to live anywhere else, and we lived off farming wheat. Endless and endless farms covered the bleak landscape. I liked being with my parents, but I really didn’t like Olux. The forest here was decaying, and the landscape was unsightly. Ogres are everywhere and Swamp Nagas would sometimes invade the fort. I really just wanted to explore, see other cities. See the real light of the province.


I went out on the farm, harvesting wheat. Make some more bread for tomorrow. Sometimes we would get a visitor or two who said they were from a distant place called “Fruma.” I desired to explore there too. Where was that? I wanted to see.

Chapter 2
Life in Gavel

I walked outside the next morning. Yet another cloudy day. The clouds were a little darker than usual, but much like they have always been these 13 years of my boyhood. Tomorrow was my birthday, I hoped the clouds would clear up.

“Mom, can I go grind the Naga Farm?” I asked. She was at the identifier identifying a wand. A slender but charming wand, probably made from birch.

“Well, ok. But I have to come.” She then said something to Papa, before turning to me and saying. “Let’s go.”


I walked out of Olux into the swamp. There was a huge Naga area where swamp nagas would spawn. I would use Arrow Shield a lot, it was my favorite spell. My mom was a mage, she would heal me if I needed it every once in a while. Papa was a warrior. Very well trained, but not a very high level. He would go around sometimes looking to see if anybody needed help for some spare emeralds, but those recruits from Fruma where all over the place filling every job needed in the province.


I went home that day, doing my same old routines. I was excited for my birthday, I invited my friends from Gelibord to come over, and play Swamp Ogre Hunt around Olux.


There was only one thing I was more excited for. I have been waiting and waiting for Karoc Quarry to return my job application. I wanted to go somewhere lighter, prettier, and more fun. My parents said I would have to pay for it myself, so I applied for a job at Karoc Quarry. One of my friends from Gelibord said that there was enough quartz there to build a whole city out of!

Chapter 3
A Birthday Surprise

It was finally here. My 14th birthday. I got out of bed so fast I could have been faster than a white horse. I put on my nicest diamond armor, and went downstairs.


“Happy Birthday honey!” Mama yelled out from across the kitchen.
“Your friends will be here around noon,” Papa told me.


I turned around to look at my gift. Usually each year I would get one gift. My parents couldn’t afford much more. This time, I turned around to see, well, nothing. Just an empty windowsill with our usual clutter on it. It was upsetting, and I couldn’t complain to my parents. There was probably a good reason I couldn’t get anything this year.

I went outside to the Market, bought some lunch. I made sure to get extra for my friends.

A couple hours later, I was done farming for the day, and I walked casually inside the house.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY” was heard with ear-splitting amplitude from all corners of the house (which were not very far away). All my friends jumped out of the corners and hugged me. “Sup,” Ernie said.

“So guys, wanna go play around in the swamp? Heard the Ogres are all over this week.” I was then spammed with “yeah!” “sure” “awesome!” “lets go!” all at once.

We had played almost until 10:00 that night, eating dinner at a Tavern across town. I bid my friends good-bye and headed home. I was still bummed about my gift, but it was ok. Then I saw something odd. Something glistening out of the ordinary. It was white. Moving. Right outside our house. As I got closer I saw Mama and Papa standing outside of the house with it. Then I knew. It was a white horse.

“AAH oh my gosh! Who is this?” I asked
“Your new horse,” Papa replied with a wink?
“How did you get one of these? They can cost up to 128 liquifieds!”
“Saved up for a bit.” Papa responded with a chuckle this time.
“Make sure to take good care of him,” Mama said.
“Yes, I will. Thank you!!!!!!” We then all went inside and fell asleep.

Chapter 4
An Envelope

Put on my armor yet again, walked downstairs. I stopped. Mama was holding a shiny (uncommon around here) white envelope in her hands. She wore a broad smile on her face, and took a glance at me.

“What is that?” I asked.
“I don’t know, why you find out,” she grinned.
I tore open the envelope. It said Karoc Quarry Quartz Mine.
All aboard the hype train! I will read the letter to you.


Dear Drew Gavelian,

You have been welcomed a position at our quartz mine in Karoc Quarry, coordinates 1896, -2893. You will be working as a miner for 16 eb per hour. You will be housed in the quarry for free rent, with the other miners. Your job will start as soon as you can arrive, as we have been busy lately.

“16 eb per hour! Wow!” I was so excited. Then my heart sunk like a stone.
“Wait, what will you guys do?”
“We will be fine here, we know you have always wanted to explore and visit Karoc.”
“I will miss you guys.” I started to tear up.
“I know honey, we will send letters, we promise.”
“Ok….”

Chapter 5
Out of the Dark
<><><><><>


Hooves of my horse pattered against the swampy ground. Swiftly diving through the vines and trees. I loved my horse, so fast and friendly. I named it “Snowflake” after its glowing coat of white.


We were at the edge of the swamp by midday. I looked at the line that cut the province in two. You could see the light just blocks away. I stepped forward into the Gavel sun. I had never experienced it before, the rays of light reflecting off my armor. I got back on Snowflake straight towards Karoc Quarry.


Then I arrived. Quarts lined the side of the mountain. Bridges of tracks ran across the quarry carrying quartz between the busy caves of miners. I had made it on time, the sun was about to set. I walked towards the center to the large center. I went inside the building to seek guidance for my job. I was told it was too late, so I had to wait until the morning.

In the Quarry

“Good Morning! Welcome to Karoc Quarry! You will be working as a miner in the North mines, starting tomorrow.”

“Ok. Thank you,” I replied.

“You will be housed in the Northeastern Miner house at the end of the tracks. To get there turn left from here and keep going until you reach the tracks. Then go under them, and it should be right in front of you.”

“I see. Thank you. Have a nice day.”


I walked out onto the soft grass. I went under the tracks to my house.

I opened the door and put my stuff down that I unloaded off Snowflake. There was nobody in the house, they were probably all in the mines for the day. I figured I would unpack now.


As I was unpacking, I saw some shady looking figures outside. They pointed at me through the window and whispered things to each other. I didn’t think much of it at the time, I was too excited to be in Karoc.


I spent the rest of that day exploring the day exploring the quarry on Snowflake, memorized my way around, took note of all the tracks and areas. Around 3:00 that afternoon I came to an area of the quarry that was gated off. A little bit farther from the quarry, towards Aldorei. I didn’t decide to go inside, not that day for sure. I then walked back to my house.


The other miners had just gotten back by the time I got there, and I talked with them for a bit. They were very nice,

“Oh hello, you must be Drew, the Quarry leader told us there was a new miner coming today.”

“Yes, welcome!”
Thank you guys! I am very excited to be here!” I replied.


Soon after we called it a night and went to bed.

A Streak in the Night

I looked up. It was 2:00 in the night. The rest of the miners were asleep. I looked outside. There was something running through the quarry. Looked like some a blue and white streak zipping through the dark sky.


I went outside to see. It was a girl. Her blond hair flying behind her from the speed on her bow. Her eyes twinkling in the starlight.


“Hey” I called out.

She stopped and turn. Her movement as swift as the wind.

“Hey” she called back.

“What are you doing here?”

“I was sent from Cinfras to get a shipment of quartz”

“Ah I see, you’re from Cinfras?”

“Well, I am from Wynn really, but I moved here after the gates opened. My parents still live in Rymek though. But yeah, house 9 on the Northeast block of Cinfras.”

My eyes turned to her bow. Was that really?

“Is that…” I began.

“A strati? Yeah. I found it in Molten Heights.”

“What is your name?” I asked finally.

“Lindsey. Yours?”

“Drew.”

“I guess I will see you around. I have to get this quartz through the Light Forest all the way to Cinfras by tomorrow night.”

“Alright. Cya”

“Bye.”


I went back to bed. I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I finally woke up in the morning to a bright sun.

Chapter 8
Karoc’s Secret
<><><><><>


I got out of bed again. This time the miners were all up and ready to go. I got ready super fast, and followed them to the North Mines.


We mined all day. The other miners said we got a lot done today. We had a surprisingly good lunch at the North Mines train station. We all went back after 4:00 to have dinner and settle in for the night.


We had dinner at the main hall. It was pretty good. Had a nice steak. It was a little over-cooked from my preference, but it still was a lot better then the food in Olux. As I was eating I noticed those same three shady figures eating at the end of the table. They were in a deep conversation of whispering. I wondered what they were up to.


That night I followed them home. I had to keep a good distance but still keep them in sight. I followed them all the way to the gate I found on the first day. They went through the gate. I had to jump the gate silently, I was worried about not being allowed in, or there being guards. They went inside a house, and I tiptoed behind it. I looked around. There were like 1000 other shady figures here too! And, there was an enormous mansion at the back of this village thing.


They walked out. This time with flashlights and dark clothes. I knew I shouldn’t but I had to follow them. I was too curious. They walked back out of the gate and into the quarry. Then they walked into the quartz storage room. They started whispering. I leaned in to listen from outside.

“How much do they need?”

“I don’t know, enough to make their robo-”

Then the speaker saw me. He stopped whispering and yelled, “What you doing out there noob? Thought you are supposed to be sleeping?” with the tone tone of a bully.

“I don’t know. What you doing in there? Stealing?” I yelled back trying my best to act confidently.

Who looked like the leader of the three came out towards me, looking furious. I ran for the headquarters and turned them in. I didn’t realize at the moment I had stopped the construction of the Quartzon.
