"I could still probably pass as a descendent of dragons, though if they were smarter than humans, I don't see why they'd be pushed to extinction."

 

"Well, long story short, the strongest human mages cast some sort of spell. I wouldn't know much about magic, I prefer using weapons. They supposedly banished the dragons with a spell. Nobody knows where they went, but they vanished without a trace. That genocide was only one of many that were part of the history of Asrodonia." I say, drinking some water.

 

"I don't understand why they'd have a problem with dragons. It's not like we hunt humans for fun."

 

"The same thing happened to the dwarves and elves. The humans of the time didn't want to have to share the land with the other races, so they turned on their allies and killed many of them. First, the elves were destroyed. Most of their cities were destroyed, and they were exiled to the Danichi Jungle. They kill humans on sight, so people tend to say away from them. Next were the dragons, who live I said, were banished from this plane of existence by some mages. After hearing of the genocides against the other races, the dwarves quickly surrendered and agreed to leave to the mountainous island of Dodroc. They tend to keep to themselves, mining away at rocks and ores deep within the ground. The dragons used to live in the desert, but after they were banished, a few humans settled there. After generations, they adapted to the harsh Charaad Desert, and founded small tribes. I eventually was born into the role of chief, which lasted a while. After the murder of my people, I seek revenge. I don't know the enemy chief's name, and neither does he, but I'll drive my sword through him if it's the last thing I do."

 

"Fair point. They're a bit greedy, but you seem different from them. Maybe I can solve the problem after I find more of my people."

 

"No need. I doubt there's a way to change generations of racism and discrimination against non-humans. Most of the humans have forgotten why they hate other races, but they just do. The northern island of Renwit isn't racist from what I've heard. They don't interact much with the other nations except to trade. The human race is known to be corrupt, greedy, and racist. From where you come from, I don't know what the people are like there, but they seem to be good." I take another bite of meat, finishing the meal. "We can keep heading northwest. I'm finished."

 

"Where I come from doesn't exist anymore, as far as I'm aware. An apocalypse of sorts is the best way to put what happened."

 

"I'm sorry." I say. "Are you sure you're the last of your kind? There surely must be some way to save your species."

 

"I'm probably not the last, but our homeworld is pretty much destroyed."

 

"I'm both very light and magical."
You can hear the sound of something moving across water quickly towards you.

The root is running so fast towards Artemis that it is now running on water.

 

"That's some fast root." I comment, still following it but just slightly hovering over the water when I get to it.

 

"I've heard of lands to the north of us, but I never suspected them to be true. They all seemed like tall tales to me. Then again, there was one time when savage, green skinned men tried to conquer the whole continent. Supposedly, all the races united,and formed an alliance that lasted until the humans broke it. If what you say is true, then those stories may be true after all. There have been a few accounts from my scouts of meeting strange looking people."

The root runs so fast that, in attempt to not collide with Artemis, it leaps straight over her and dives into the water in front of her.

 

Artemis swims over to the root and picks it up, putting it on her head so it doesn't have to worry about drowning.

 

"I'm not one to dismiss stories. I heard tales from other worlds, dismissed as nothing more than childish concerns. A year later, what people thought were ghosts were spectral warriors, spirits of the living who have equal control of their soul and their body."

 

I watch intently with amusement.

 

"Maybe I should believe these strange tales. But some seem too strange to be possible. One of my scouts found a humanoid lizard in the desert. He didn't seem to attack, so my scout gave him water and he wandered off into the distance. I've never really believed in other continents, but I suppose they could exist. Ever been to one?"

 

"Nope. Got caught up in the same mess you have since day one. Maybe we could go see if they do exist at some point, once we clean up here."

 

"I suppose." I keep walking for a bit. "How's your cut doing? The doc said we still need to find a mage, but it looks good on the outside."

 

"It's together enough that I'll make it. It doesn't hurt much right now."
