It's about time, the game was in early access for as long as I can remember.

I'm about to get Starbound this week, but I don't really want to try to progress much in case my stuff gets wiped because of 1.0. xD

i doubt everything would get wiped but i recommend that you don't play until the release! you would want to create a new character anyway for it :P. I'm trying not to play until the 1.0 release so i can experience all the new things without any spoilers! but feel free to give it a try before the update! nothing wrong with that!

 

I might try it out for a day to get the hang of how it works (So i don't fail at it when 1.0 comes out)

My friend plays this, and described it as "Space Terraria".

 

i remember trapping the guards to a village in thin walling and using a large sword to stab through them and steal their high-powered guns without any danger
does that still work?

 

XD good times! I think it could be possible though I think their AI's have been improved to allow them to be better at path finding and things

 

Last time I played there was a bunch of shitty quests that forced me along and didn't let me play the way I wanted to, that still the case?

 

nope! now the quests are totally optional (from what i know) you don't need to do any of them if you don't want to. quests no longer require you to have a certain armor set as you can do the quest whenever you are ready. you can either create colonies and explore or do the quest lines or both! really all up to you. you can even hire a crew for your ship made up of mercenary penguins if you don't want to do quests for NPCS to get them to join your crew! there is the opening quest that you have to do which has you flee earth but i think thats the only quest that you have to do though i could be wrong.

I haven't played in 6 months, I'm overhyped :D (this is one of my favorite game)
