Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Most tomes aren't exactly small, so I'll take you up on that."

 

Stephanie reads through her tome, clearly engrossed.

"So what's it like being...a crystal?" Abigail asks.

 

"What's it like in general, or just what's it like to have rocks for skin?"

 

"General. Like, eating, sleeping, breathing, thinking, pain..." Abigail says.

 

"Well, the first three things I don't need, but I can do. I can each by just managing to break down food in my mouth, but I can't actually swallow it unless a forced a hole to open up to act as my throat. I can put myself to sleep, but it's not really necessary. I can pretend like I'm breathing, and rarely I like to, because it's calming, but I don't need air. Thinking... I'm assuming that it's much like humans, but a lot less forgetting. I don't really forget things, but sometimes I lose track of them and it can be really hard to get them back. Either that, or I've decided I don't care about it. Pain... I don't much feel it. It's often just something that's there, something my body warns me about because I can feel it, but it doesn't bother me. I could get my arm cut off and all I could really feel was a weight difference."

 

Nothing, nobody.

Opal comes back and sits next to you.
"Clear."

 

"Weird. So what if Stephanie were to try and control you from within?" Abigail asks.

 

"With any form of magic forced control, it always depends on the type. If something were to say, possess me, I could probably cage them in my own mind until they broke out. If someone were to try and mind control me, for a mage with not too great of power, it might be more suggestive than anything. Such as, telling me to lay on the ground will probably work, but you'd have to have some serious power to tell me to kill my friends."
"But it sounds like it would be hard to get into your mind in the first place, as I don't think you have a brain, and therefore don't have a very central hive for operation."
I butt in, giving my opinion.

 

"What if the being possessing you had strong control, being able to turn the mind cage against you?" I ask.

 

"Then I'm really not sure why that being chose to possess a rock."
Crystal says frankly.

 

"Heavens, do you want me to carry you?" I ask the root.

 

"Perhaps to protect itself or exploit the rock's greater powers." I say offhandedly.

 

I chew my food, then say, "Glad to hear." Taking and swallowing another bite, I continue, "So, you can really go without eating for a week? Of course, humans can technically go a few weeks without food, but it's painful and tiresome. Water, on the other hand, is needed more. The most we can go is a week, and that estimate is extremely generous. My tribe knew of many hidden wells across the desert, and used them to our advantage. I tried poisoning one of the enemy's, hoping in a last attempt it would kill at least a few of them." I pause to eat some more. "So you really can go a week without food and still feel fine?"

 

"Fair enough. But I probably know a being of great power when I see one, so thanks for the tip of not trying to use the cage."

 

"Correct. Through some... incredibly immoral techniques, I've been born with the ability to not need lot of food. That doesn't mean I don't eat to be polite sometimes, there are some flavors that are worth bloating myself a bit for."

 

"Yes, we are the Birthlake."

The root stops scuttling and turns around. It seems to recognise you and seems to run even faster down the path.

 

"Looks can be decieving. Sometimes beings hide their power to either ambush or not be hunted." I say.

Artemis keeps swimming through the birthlake, headed towards the others.

 

"Must be useful." I say. "Humans are...much weaker, like I said. By the way, do those wings let you fly at all?"

 

"Well... Most of my species could say yes. I can only use them to glide."

 

I continue to follow it.
