Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Really?" I say while eating my food. I put Opal's food back in my backpack. "If you're ever hungry, just ask. Or you can get some of the food in your own backpack."

 

"Before the dragon came, something decided to just settle down in the crystals on the island. That something supposedly went into the crystals, and made me. Taught me magic, and stuff like that, but never controlled me."
"So you've got no strings attached?"
I smile.
"Why would I?"
"Never mind."

 

Most of the others who went into the forest are there. Terrae is not there, but presumably on the path behind you. You notice that Hythania and Idala are also absent. Eras dissolves into darkness and moves into the forest.
As Artemis walks into the water, magic focuses around her. Like the others, she starts to feel relaxed and calm.

"I have an idea... I'll be back soon."
I create a dark aura around me. I then dissolve into a cloud of darkness, which moves into the forest and out of sight.

It's almost amusing watching the root scuttling and flailing as it tries to get to the opening. You start to adjust to the light, and you notice something which seems to resemble a lake beyond it.

 

"Alright, thanks for the offer. I'll check the area while you eat."
Opal walks a bit ahead and starts looking around, making sure nothing suspicious is near.

 

"So you were just brought to life by so magical essence of sorts?" Stephanie asks.

Artemis swims through the water, relaxed, but not so relaxed she'd sink and drown.

 

The lake isn't very deep. It is also surprisingly clear.
A voice says to Artemis, "Hello, forest guardian. What is your name?"

 

"Artemis. Are you the birthlake?" Artemis asks.

 

While eating, I check behind us to make sure nobody is tailing us, then make sure my weapons are ready.

 

"Some essence that spoke to me, I guess."

 

"Well, you're certainly strange. Let me try something." Stephanie says, holding her hands out. A large crystal golem appears, and stares blankly. Stephanie opens a hatch of sorts on the golem's chest, and climbs inside.

Stephanie makes the crystal golem touch Crystal's chest, trying to absorb some of his magic.

 

Crystal steps back a bit.
"What are you trying to do?"
Crystal asks suspiciously.

 

"I'm trying to trace whatever magic created you, by attempting to mimic it." Stephanie says.

 

"Good luck. I'm pretty sure it's gone. I tried talking to it, and I couldn't even since I left that dragon's cave. I don't really feel it, either. Trust me, I would know. It is, or was, inside of me."

 

"Hmm." Stephanie ponders, jumping out of the golem as it disappears.

Stephanie looks Crystal over, then looks him over again. She summons a pair of glasses, tinted purple, and puts them on. The glasses glow slightly, and her eyes can't be seen. Stephanie gets close to Crystal as she carefully looks at each part of him.

 

Crystal puts his arms out and his legs shoulder-width apart, like he's about to get frisked.

 

Stephanie takes off her glasses after a moment, "There's no sign of any magical, sentient essence within you; strangely." She says.

 

"There probably used to be."
Crystal says, going back to a normal stance.
"Now there's just me."

 

"Living crystals...hmm." Stephanie says, summong her tome and flipping through its pages.

 

"Maybe more of my type exist where you and your friends are from?"
Crystal says out loud, supposedly thinking the same thing as Stephanie.

 

"Maybe. There might be something about living crystals, or maybe magical essences. I've not fully read this tome, it's incredibly large." Stephanie says.
