Artemis walks into the birthlake, uncaring of the water, and starts swimming across.

 

"Huh. I thought Daras said there was nothing else here, though, other than the plants."
I say, while walking over to where Crystal (and supposedly still Abigail) are.

 

"Maybe Daras couldn't sense him. He's not alive." Stephanie says, looking over at Crystal.

 

"He looks alive to me. Although it might be whether he has a pulse or brain waves. Which, at a first look, it doesn't seem like he has either."
I say, looking at Stephanie, then walking more towards Crystal.

 

"I meant he doesn't have life force. He's kept 'alive' by magic." Stephanie says, following.

 

"Huh. That seems more likely."

"Is that Thirteen?"
Crystal asks Abigail.

 

"Yeah. He's had a weird relationship with Stephanie, I dunno if they're still dating or not. I'd say he's available if you're into that sort of weird robot fantasy thing." Abigail says.

 

"I don't think I have a sexual preference."

Stephanie and I are nearing towards Crystal and Abigail by now.

 

"So...you do want to date him or you don't?" Abigail asks.

"Hey, Crystal." Stephanie says.

 

"No. Not at all."
Crystal says to Abigail, then turns to Stephanie.
"Hi."
"Hello. I'm Thirteen. You're Crystal, right?"
"Yeah. Nice to meet you, Thirteen."
Crystal smiles.

 

"So where'd you come from?" Stephanie asks.

 

"One of the islands, out here in the ocean, I think I saw them labeled on a map as the Outcast Isles."

 

"Outcast Isles?" Stephanie asks, turning to you, "Do you know where they are?"

 

"Somewhere off of Brisingr, I believe. Never been. Apparently, no one else has either, or they would've take Crystal for their own."
Pause.
"Unless that's what actually happened."
"No, it's not. Well, not exactly."

 

"Brisingr? Ooh, can we go there?" Abigail asks excitedly.

"That was the plan, wasn't it?" I say happily.

"So what did happen?" Stephanie asks.

 

"A dragon came along, probably thought, 'oooh, some pretty possibly valuable crystals', and took them. Little did they know, a human-sized five foot four inches of the crystals were alive, and sneaked out of his cave. Then, trying to find the island, I found this place. It's nice, so I decided to stay."

 

I continue walking towards the light, watching the root.

 

"I hope to just refill our supplies and go. We can make camp on the road." I pull out the food item at the top of the backpack and toss it to Opal, then grab one for myself. "Hungry?"

 

"No, I only need to eat about once a week on this world. Thanks for the offer, though."

 

"So you got hoarded by a dragon and escaped? But hiw did you come to life?" Stephanie asks.
