Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"That's so sweet!"
Keila scratches Aura's neck gently.

 

I look at the forest around me, then back to the mushroom.
"Okay. Is there any other way I could communicate with you?"

 

The root relaxes slightly.
"Whoa, what is that thing you're holding?"

Aura makes a strange, metallic sound which sounds like a cross between a hum and a laugh.

The trees creak again.
The mushroom floats over to the side of the path and floats between two branches. They look suspiciously hand shaped.
The branches start gesturing in sign language.
Do you know sign language?
You notice that the path is starting to close in a few metres behind you.

 

"A bow, the weapon of forest guardians. It's used to fire arrows." Artemis says, gesturing to her quiver.

 

Keila cringes.
"Was that her?"

 

I notice the path closing, and quickly gesture back,
Yes.
I need to catch up to my group.
I start walking away from the closing path, and more towards the group.
So is the thing Im gesturing to still the mushroom? I dont much get this.
I gesture to the forest as I'm walking.

 

"Oh, I don't know much. I'm only four years old."

 

"Do you know you're a root?" Artemis asks.

 

"Yes, she was just giggling after having her neck scratched."

The branches withdraw. The mushroom floats alongside you as you walk and two vines shaped vaguely like hands come out of the ground and trail alongside it. They gesture like the branches did in sign language.
I'm just a curious mushroom. I needed the forest to relay what you said to me. The trees worked out what you said and told me. That was the noises you heard.

"Yeah, I know I'm a root. I wouldn't be able to walk if I wasn't!"

 

"Oh, alright. You seem so...human, though." Artemis says.

 

"Do I? I don't know. I haven't seen a human."

 

Ah. Well, ask me any questions you have, I guess. I honestly dont have much for you.
I gesture, continuing to walk.

 

"Oh. I'm... not used to that sound."
Keila goes back to scratching Aura's neck.

 

"Well, you certainly don't seem like a regular plant. Maybe this birthlake gives sentience to non-sentient things." Artemis says.

 

Who are you?, it asks.

Aura continues to make the strange humming sound.

"Is the Birthlake the wet thing in the middle of the forest? I don't know. It feels special and comforting."

 

"She's like part machine, part dragon."

 

"Are we headed there now?" Artemis asks.

 

Name's Thirteen. Nice to meet you. What do you call yourself?

 

"Yes, she is in a way. Her scales also rust like a machine over time, which means she sheds them frequently."

"No, we're going to the old glowing tree."
You notice that the green light filtering through the leaves above is being replaced by a bright green light coming from deeper within the forest.

Interesting name... I'm Por.

 

"Huh. How does she regrow them so fast?"
