Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"They must not have had lids where you came from." I say. "Here, you twist it off like this." I make a motion with my hands, twisting an invisible lid off an invisible bottle. "I could do it for you if you'd like."

 

"It's fine, I'm used to being dragged around by plants." Artemis says, following the root.

 

Keila just pets her, still unsure how to react.

He opens the bottle easily once you show him the twisting motion.
"Oh... Where I came from, you just yanked it off and shoved it on."

 

I look back for a second, but decide to walk towards the light.
"This is legitimately the worst descision I could ever make." I comment.

 

There are a few loose branches, but all of them are more twig than branch.

"If you are tired of walking, I can get some to carry you."
You notice someone ahead... is that Terrae?

Aura's slightly cold scales suddenly become warm. They aren't hot, but they are very comforting.

When you look back, you see a figure in the distance and something on the ground in front of them.
They look like they could be Artemis from their green hair.

 

Works for me.
I pick the longest twig near me, and focus my eyes on the floating mushroom.
"If you don't want to get poked, back up now."
I say to it.

 

"Haha, it's fine. My boyfriend's carried me for most of the way, I can walk." Artemis says.

Artemis focuses, and her vision enhances to see the figure clearer.

 

Keila runs her hand along Aura's back, unfamiliar with this experience.

 

It backs away out of range but still hovers nearby.

Yep, it's definitely Terrae. Maybe he found the path earlier, as the path starts where the temporary path was?

 

"Um, excuse me, but are you sure it's good to have a god of destruction in this part of the forest?" Artemis asks, concerned.

 

Aura hums happily at being stroked.
She walks so smoothly that Keila isn't moved up and down at all.

 

I toss the twig aside.
"Alright, we've got some communication going. That's good. So it doesn't seem like we can communicate in the best way, but... How about you rise for 'yes', and sink for 'no'. Does that work?"
I start asking it.

 

"That thing over there is a God of Destruction?! And I don't know how they got here, they were there when I got here."
The root makes a telepathic whimper curls up around Artemis' legs.

The trees around you creak and rustle slightly.
A few seconds later, the fungus floats upwards.

 

Keila smiles, relaxing a bit.
"Does she have an owner?"

 

"She's Idala's pet. Owner doesn't really describe her though. They act like friends or possibly even sisters."

 

Artemis puts her hand on the root and causes it to curl around her arm, "Stay close, and you'll be fine." She says, continuing down the path.

 

"Okay. Are you a natural product of this forest? Not to be rude."

 

"They're a great fit. She's lucky to have such a sweet companion."

 

"B-but... it could be dangerous! I'm scared..."
The root doesn't seem very relaxed and it tries wriggling slightly.

Once again, the forest around you creaks and groans.
It rises... then it lowers. Then it moves from side to side.
If there the Birthlake is magical, maybe the mushroom is referring to the magic here?

Aura purrs gently.
"Idala really likes her. Daras originally made all of them as sort of toys, so she could have fun fighting them. Aura seemed different almost immediately and Idala soon kept her in her normal form for most of the time. They flew together, they went exploring occasionally, though I never found out for many years because she didn't want anyone to know she had left the Void Palace. Not even those who have managed to tame some monsters have had a bond this close to one."

 

The root's free to move how it wants, and ends up falling from Artemis' arm.

Artemis draws her bow, "I'll make sure no harm comes to this forest." She says.
