Ruby forms a telepathic link with Stephanie.
"Look, I really hate to bring it up, but if Thirteen didn't have crappy engineers, you two would've made a fine pair. Still, I hope you respect he's still trying to be friends."

 

"I've come to realise that...maybe I was a little hasty. After thinking about it, maybe it might not have worked out between us after all. I'm glad we're just friends." Stephanie responds.

 

"You never know, but sometimes, it's best to not find out at all."

 

Stephanie sighs, "I just hope the me on the timeline where we are together is happy." She responds.

 

"It shouldn't be too far."
The root walks alongside Artemis.

"Those are Wind Dragons! Remember that something appeared when I visited Aurilon? That was a Wind Dragon too."

 

"Do you know much about it's magical properties? Does it have a being within it?" Artemis asks, "As I see it, it sounds a lot like a forest heart."

 

"I do too... I do too."

"Well, they're troublesome. Several have tried to breach the barrier."

 

After a pause, Stephanie asks "Have...you ever had someone you've loved? I mean, in a deeper relationship sort of way. I know you love Xlentia platonically."

 

"Yeah... once."

 

"What happened to them? If you don't mind me asking, of course." Stephanie asks.

 

"Died to old age. That's when I gave up on love; I outlive a lot of things."

 

"That's why I feel bad for Aj. Forest Guardians live the longest of all the guardians, but they can still die of age. Maybe Aj will do something to make her immortal like he is, but...I don't know. I think he'd kill himself should she die like that." Stephanie says, shaking her head solemnly.

 

"Worst case scenario, Artemis can forfeit her biological body to become a vessel."

 

"What do you mean?" Stephanie asks.

 

I start walking to the northwest.

 

"I gave my biological life to become a vessel of energy. I don't die of age, but the cost is that I cannot be resurrected and, like a container, a physical wound will likely break me."

 

"Well, I don't think she could do that. The most I'd think she'd do is re-connect with nature, and hope to be reborn into a new body. Sort of like Myria in a sense; the flower she came from essentially created her anew." Stephanie says.

 

"A cycle of rebirth would work, too."

 

"I'm sure mother nature would set aside something for true love." Stephanie says happily.

 

Opal silently follows you.
Once the town is out of sight, he lets out a sigh of relief.
"Thanks for helping me with the cut."
