Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

He comes over, then his jaw drops.
"Wh... what is that?"
"I'm sorry, doc. There's more than one reason I couldn't come to town."
"I've never seen anything like you before, but... I think I can fix you up. Stitches won't work, but I can close the wound and treat the poison."
"Thanks... Can you hurry? I can't freeze the wound forever. Also, might you have anything that can fix a severed vein?"
"Oh god... I can... I'll try."

The doctor opens his supply case and starts working on Opal.

 

"Alright then." I say, opening up a portal as close as possible to the island.

"I can only keep it up for so long. So for now, it's a one-way trip until I recharge my powers to optimal levels. And there's the off chance it might lead to the ocean, or to a dangerous place. Overall, it's a massive risk, but it can cut some serious time."
I put away my notebook and quill.

 

"It was a gift. And don't mention it. Can I take it back without them flipping?"

"...Are we sure we want to do this?"
I ask the rest of the group.

 

"Ehh..."
"I'd rather play it safe."
"I'm not gambling with the Chosen One's life."

"Let's find out. They've been rigged and tied down, and the sedatives probably finally had a chance to work."
One dragon is allowing a couple mages to get the more difficult-to-put-on rigging, and the other is asleep with its tongue laying out of its mouth.

"Eeh... Maybe we went a bit overboard..."

"I have no idea. Maybe Stephanie could throw a mage crystal?"
"Abigail has the warp enhancement. She could run in and port out to tell us what's there, if she's willing. I'd just need one more quick look at her gauntlets."

 

"I'm not sure; I don't like risking such a large amount for some fast travel." Artemis says nervously.

"I don't think we should." Katie says.

"I could use a crystal as a focus point, and teleport back to it should I get lost." Stephanie says telepathically.

 

"With your shadow empowering you, you should be able to quickly recover from any repercussions. If you're willing, you might set quite a few of our minds at ease."

 

OOC: All of her scales are metallic, just some parts are colder than others.

Touching one of the colder areas, you realise that Aura is colder towards her head.

"Thinking about it, you might not be able to fit on the island. But he says that he won't have enough energy to keep the portal open for the return journey, so you might need to come to the island to pick us up."

"Sounds risky... we'll see what Stephanie can find at the end of the portal. Is the portal big enough for Rineth?"

 

"I'll circle it, I guess. As for the portal, I'm not fitting, no matter how hard you try to make me a contortionist."

"Those who want to can go through the portal to start sightseeing, and the rest can catch up with Rineth. How about that?"

"Yes, I mot certainly did. That however, will not change my opinion. I'd rather not waste time flying around."

 

"There won't be time to waste if it kills us."
Ihra looks at you, cross.
"But aren't you immortal?"
"Ihra, don't give him any orders. You're still just a youth."
"Argh... I'm sorry, Dominus."

 

"Who kills who?" I ask.
"I'd like to point out, that it is usually I who does the killing in battles, not them."
"You see, in a sense, I am immortal. In a sense, I am not immortal. It all depends on your viewpoint."

 

"The portal. You said we may die if we go through."

 

"Yes. Well, indirectly die. If it leads to the bottom of the ocean, I could probably just teleport back here. I'm not sure about the rest of you though."

 

"Might it lead to inside something, or is drowning the worst that could happen?"

 

"First of all, if this were a portal to underwater, I'm pretty sure water would be flowing through it right now. Next, if it would lead to something, then, tough luck. That's how life goes. Never know when you could suddenly teleport into a wall and suffocate."

 

"You said it was one way."
Ihra stands up.
"I'm going on Rineth either way. Thanks, but no thanks."

 

I wait patiently for the doctor to work on Opal, taking a seat on a nearby log.
