Hype Train For Starbound 1.0 The Update Is Out!

THE UPDATE IS OUT


Starbound begins with the player inside a spacecraft fleeing their homeworld, each race with their own unique reasons for leaving. With nothing to guide it, the shuttle shoots into space without direction, becoming hopelessly lost in a sea of stars. As luck would have it, the space shuttle touches down on a habitable planet and an adventure begins that takes the player hurtling across the universe. Starbound contains both quests and story driven missions, buried inside its vast sandbox universe. The space shuttle acts as the player's vehicle while exploring the galaxy, containing a teleport pad the player can use to teleport down to planets the shuttle is visiting, a ship locker for storing items, a fuel panel for refueling the ship, a 3d printer for creating objects, and a cockpit for piloting the ship. The interior of the ship is also fully customizable, with any blocks able to be placed in the ship. -Wiki

You can play as a Human, an Apex (monkey man), a Hylotl (fish man), Avian (bird man), a Floran (plant man), a Glitch (robot man), and as a Nova Kid (gas/star dust man). Each race has their own back story and quest line (i think that is coming in the new update)

You explore randomly generated planets, create colonies, fight bandits, make friends, craft, equip your character and fight evil!

Starbound is the only game i know of where you can dress up as an Alpaca and get some mad air!

Starbound has been in development for a number of years and was released on December 4th 2013 in open beta. It has been about 2.5 years and they are growing closer to completing the game everyday!

The game is a little like Terraria.... mainly because one of the artists from Terraria also works on Starbound!

They are adding a main quest line, new biomes, villages, and a whole lot more that i don't even know about! (They have been very hush hush about a number of things)

Can you play this with friends? like work on a world/share a spaceship together?

 

yep! in the upcoming update you will be able to invite your steam friends into your own game without having to create your on server/port forward like we had to do in the past. You can invite loads of friends! here is a picture of the dev team coming together in game:

All members of your party appear on the side of the screen. though when you enter a game/server, you will not appear on the side of the screen until someone creates a party and invites you to it! you could go through the entire game with your friends by your side though! it makes playing the game way more fun if you have a group of good friends to play with.

Nice! i know ill be convincing my friends to get it as well! I've seen some of the things that they are adding in the new update and they are incredible. I'm dying to play the 1.0 update but they don't have a set release date because every day they find new things to add into the game. reminds me of the gavel update XD hopefully this update doesn't take another year to complete like gavel did/will:P

 

It also kind of reminds me of No Man's Sky!
It's a space adventure game that I'm really looking forward to!
Everything there is procedural generated from the planets to the wildlife to the plantlife to the geography. I have a lot of hope for it and can't wait for its release.

I just watched a short demo video by IGN First and I am literally mind blown. Like literally.
EVERYTHING is procedurally generated, there's billions of solar systems with their own planets and moons. It has it's own periodic table and you can create alloys and technologies. The rendering is beautiful and accurate whether you are far or close to planets. There are so many possible playstyles and just... it's amazing

 

GahHH I'm watching some teasers! is it an MMO? are there other people in the universe that you can stumble upon and find?

 

Yes!
There are players you can encounter and they could be friendly (traders/explorers) or hostile (pirates) and you can team up with them to explore or raid space stations!
This was a good demo, but it was only with AI and the "sentinels" because obviously the game hasn't come out yet.

 

I've heard of starbound before but now I'm really inclined to go buy it! =^-^=
