Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"I couldn't say. I know the feeling, though. Everyone did when the Hive Master took over."

 

"What was that like? You hear someone take over, and then you live in complete fear for a short time, until people come to the only place you feel safe anymore and rip your life away from you?"
Pause.
"Sorry."

 

"Sums up the bulk of it." He mutters.

 

"As a wise man once thought, 'everything's human, even if not biologically'."
Pause.
"Crazy how true that can be, for such of an inferior species to a lot of things."

 

"That sounds...really painful..." Artemis says.

"It sounds like a more painful version of a werewolf; but I guess turning into a werewolf wouldn't be as painful as turning into a gigantic dragon." I say.

"If...if there's anything you want help with, just ask. I understand it must be hard to have to go through that every day and night." Artemis says sympathetically, smiling at Reed.

 

"They have their benefits. Lesser and inferiority are perspective based."

"Usually I'm not this big. Also, you get used to it. It's why I usually stay inside all the time. No sunlight or moonlight, no problems."

 

"So it's only triggered by sunlight or moonlight?" Artemis asks.

"I thought moonlight was reflected sunlight..." I comment.

 

"There's something about moons that alter the light a bit. Yes, the transformations are triggered by sunlight and moonlight, but a Lune's tie with a moon is... inexplicable. Furthermore, the longer I am connected to one, the more power I can use from it at night. It can get to the point where clouds obstructing the night sky won't stop the transformation."

 

I raise an eyebrow at the weapon. "Are you... speaking?"

"I am the ancient ooooone."

"That doesn't clarify much."

"I am the keeper oooof the Laressss."

A pause, presumably Khione facepalming (facetaloning? Ouch) somewhere. "That's 'Oooothrail,' as he would say."

"Ssssilence, mooortal foool."

 

I take they key out of the socket, and start pacing around the vault. Eventually, I'll wake up, I think.

 

"True."
I just go back to rubbing my sword.

 

"Free... mee..."

"So... What's that supposed to mean? The lairs? Never heard of you before."

"Hey..." Opal whispers.
"You're not dreaming, okay? Keep quiet!"

"Opal!"
"Sorry, I'm just curious."
"Well... I guess we can't help that. Forgive us."
"You're just doing your job."

A few footsteps go over the hatch.

"Does that really need polished?"
He seems interested in the blade.

 

"Not really. But it's something to do, and it opens up a new possibility during battle that has a very low chance of actually helping."

 

"How would shining a blade open up a new anything?"

 

"Flowers are nice! Not battle abilities like mine, unless the flowers happen to be poisonous, but it's just as good as any battle ability. Perhaps better in a way."

Daras and the wyvern carrying Anna fly down first.
"Should still be a while until Anna wakes up, but at the same time it won't be very long."

"Harsh, but easily understandable. Any good leader would do the same thing... while many soldiers would make the mistake of attempting to flee. Heh, how these things happen..."
He picks up a novel.

"This hot spring is good... I haven't seen anything like it... partially because I haven't seen a hot spring before."

 

"I can't grow poisonous flowers. Still, it's better than nothing. At least it lets me express my mood."

"Wow...that's amazing." Artemis comments.

"I don't like moonlight that much, especially full moons. New moons are probably the best for me." I say.

"I'm glad you like it. It took a little while to make, and Katie was especially excited about it." Abigail says, smiling.

 

I stay silent, anxiously waiting.

 

"Pure darkness, I'm guessing?"

"Opal, the sun's setting. Don't get into too much trouble."
"I know, I know..."

The hatch is unlocked from the outside.
"Don't come out yet." She whispers.

 

"Yup; though I'm strong enough to survive sunlight." I say, glancing toward the (I assume) rising moon.

"It'd be horrible if you couldn't stay in sunlight." Artemis comments, saddened by the thought.
