"I'd rather stay with you. Your intentions were to free her, no?"

You realize the slightly unsettling aura is coming from her.

 

I make a gesture that's zipping my mouth shut, while pointing at Ruby.

"I don't think we have, although with me standing in the background."
I accept the handshake.

 

"I know. I'm no fool."

 

"Well, I guess that's fine; but would you mind explaining that aura you're emitting?" I ask, "As much as I want to free Xlentia, that aura of yours is unsettling."

"It's awfully strange for my daughter to be friends with a robot," Myria says, "Artemis, I thought you disliked robots."

"Wh-what? He's a r-robot!?" Artemis says, clearly shocked.

"Artemis, calm down. He doesn't mean harm, he's your friend." Myria says with a soothing voice.

"I-I didn't know..." Artemis says, "It explains a few things though..."

Hythania notices them.
"Daras?"
She and Idala run over and hug them.

"He's Daras. He used to be the king of a kingdom called the Lost Kingdom. You can guess what happened from the name."

 

"Yeah, sorry about not telling you. I thought something bad or other might have happened."

 

"I-It's alright. We're friends, aren't we? I wouldn't hurt you." Artemis says, trying to smile.

Myria smiles at Artemis, then to you. She seems quite happy with the situation.

 

"I can't hide it or stop it. It's part of my power, but I can shield it from you. As a Preserver, many want me dead or as a prisoner. That's why I was able to control what parts of me you were posessing, even when asleep."

 

I smile back.

 

"Huh. Hello, Daras. Nice to meet you. Are you all a family?"

 

"I wasn't going to force control. I simply wished to refill your veins; either way, it's...strange, to be constantly feeling that." I say.

Abigail walks over, "Back from the brink of death? I'm glad to see Artemis, Aj and Myria were able to save you," Abigail says, "My name is Abigail, by the way."

Abigail offers a handshake, smiling at Ruby.

 

"Yes, Hythania is my wife and Idala is my daughter."

 

She accepts it, and your group stops feeling the aura.
"If I come to distrust you, you'll feel it again. Nice to meet you. I'm Ruby, a preserver and the founder of Xlentia's first group of followers."

 

I ponder y actions for a moment, then tell my most trusted advisor, "How do you think we should attack? I've had enough of their men terrorizing us. It's time we end this once and for all." I pull out my weapons.

 

"Aww, that's sweet. Have they not seen Daras in a while?"

"They still don't keep their territory well lit at night. If we strike after sunset, we can hit them by surprise."

 

"For about 10,000 years actually, so yes they haven't seen each other in a while."

"I still find it hard to believe you're back..."
"I know Hythania. I'm guessing you don't have memories of me, Idala?"
"No, I was too young then."
"I should have come to find you before then."
"Weren't you mourning the loss of your people?"
"Yes, but you should have come before them."
"We were safe and Eras could protect us. If you were seen, anyone could have killed you."

 

"That's quite the title you have, Ruby. I'm sure you know quite a bit about Xlentia; which will be key when we inevitably meet her again." Abigail says happily.

Myria looks around the group, "Abigail, do you know where your sorceress friend went? She doesn't seem to be here." Myria asks, concerned.

"Oh, she ran off. I think Thirteen may have offended her; apparently she needed some time to herself."

"I'll see if she's feeling alright," Myria says, turning to Artemis, "I'll be back in a bit, sweetie."

A flower encloses around Myria, which sinks into the ground. A distance away, the flower grows from the ground a short distance from where Stephanie sits. Myria walks over to Stephanie, eventually sitting beside her.

 

"I hate to interrupt your family reunion, but might you know what the tentacles from earlier were?"

"I do. I also know how to get you off my back, were you to frustrate me. I want to help you, but the moment my beloved is free, I want to have a reunion."

 

"Oh, is, uh, Xlentia your beloved?" Abigail says, deeply unnerved by Ruby's warning. She instinctively takes a step backwards.

 

"I was her first follower. My devotion hasn't waned."
