Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Abigail focuses, and the flame starts to change colours. Abigail begins throwing it and catching it, and with each catch the flame switches to a different colour.

"Clever." Stephanie comments, watching Abigail throw the fire around.

 

She puts the crystal to her head.

"Yes, I am Arnold, and thank you. Who are you?"

 

Reed turns to look, but is confused.
"Why are you juggling nothing?"

"Ruby, the head librarian."

 

"This is a great library. So far I've been enjoying accounts of people seeing Xlentia."

 

The crystal glows, and a vision starts.

Spoiler: Vision

It seems to be from Abigail's perspective, at a bar of sorts. There are other guardians around, marked by their coloured hair, and a brown-haired one sits next to Abigail.

"So how are you enjoying the night?" He asks.

"It's been nice hanging out with you, Nathan. You're a great friend." Abigail responds happily, sipping her drink.

"Heh, well, you know..." The brown haired one, most likely Nathan, trails off.

"What?" Abigail asks.

"Well, we've been going out together for a while now...and I figured, maybe...we could be a little more than just friends?" Nathan asks.

"Nathan, look...you're a nice guy and all, but...I don't really share the same feelings. You're a great friend, but I don't think I could see you as anything more." Abigail says, finishing her drink.

"Oh...no that's fine. I understand, it just wanted to see if you shared the same feelings as I did. I guess not," Nathan says with a hurt tone, "But, you know, it's fine. You're a great friend too, Abigail. Here, let me get you another drink."

"Thanks, Nathan. Do you think you could excuse me for a moment? I need to use the bathroom; don't spike my drink!" Abigail says happily.

"Ha, wouldn't think of it!" Nathan replies happily.

The perspective switches to a slightly zoomed out version of the bar. After Abigail leaves, Nathan pulls out a phial of pink liquid.

"Pssh, great friend? Like I'm going to stand for that. If you won't come willingly, I guess I'll have to tempt you." He says, evil in his words.

"Your drinks, sir." A male water guardian says, putting a drink in front of Nathan, and in front of Abigail's seat.

"Thanks." Nathan says. When the bartender leaves, Nathan takes Abigail's drink and pours the pink liquid into it.

"Hey, I'm back," Abigail says, sitting down next to Nathan, "Thanks for buying the drinks. Sorry about...letting you down and all."

"Ah, it's no problem, really. I'm sure we'll find someone in the end," Nathan says, "Here's to us hopefully finding love in the near future!"

Nathan and Abigail toast, laughing. Shortly after Abigail drinks some of her drink, she puts her head in her hands.

"Nathan...I don't feel so hot..." Abigail says.

"Oh my, have you had too much to drink? Excuse me, bartender, how much for a room for the night? My girlfriend isn't feeling too well." Nathan says with a concerned voice.

"Heh, thanks Nathan. You're the best boyfriend I could ask for." Abigail says in a slightly hypnotised tone.

"I know." Nathan says, kissing Abigail. Abigail kisses back; rather passionately.

The vision seems to jump forward, and the pair seem to be in a bedroom...removing their clothing.

From there, things escalate. Rather quickly.

A short while later, the vision jumps forward again. Abigail and Katie seem to be sitting at the base of a mountain, a large pond near to them.

"I-I can't believe he could've done that to you, Abigail!" Katie says, consoling Abigail, who seems to be crying.

"I...I don't know why he did it though. I remember it all, it's so horrible. He said he was alright with us not being together, how could he do that to me? How could he abuse me like that?" Abigail asks through tears.

The vision jumps forward a little more, and Abigail seems to have stopped crying. The vision suddenly switches back to Abigail's perspective.

"How's my fine girl today?" A familiar voice says.

Abigail spins round, and Nathan seems to be standing with a pair of Earth guardians.

"There she is!" Nathan says, an evil smirk on his face. The pair laugh.

"You!" Abigail says, infuriated, charging at Nathan. You can just about see Katie stab one of the others in the neck with her trident before Abigail and Nathan hit the ground.

Abigail jams her claw next to Nathan's left eye, before drawing it across his face; narrowly missing his eye. Nathan screams in pain as Abigail cuts three deep wounds across his face.

"Abigail, stop! That's enough!" Katie says, pulling Abigail away. Nathan manages to get to his feet, his face bleeding quite a bit, screaming in pain and running away; a trail of blood following him. One of the other Earth guardians lies on the ground unconscious, the other is nowhere to be seen.

The vision suddenly ends.

Despite the vision feeling like a long time, relatively no time seems to have passed.

"Much easier than having to explain it." Abigail says.

"What? I'm juggling fire..." Abigail says, confused.

"Can't you see fire?" Stephanie asks.

 

"That's a fraction, a tiny fraction, of the books here. Glad you're enjoying yourself. I just wanted to congratulate you; Mistress hasn't seen such willing recruits for a while. However, you'll have a lot of downtime."
Her horns are long and seem to be attached to the wall. You can see she's levitating.

"No, I can't see fire. Without the fuel, it's just light. Try flashing a bright light in my face; I won't react."

 

"That's...strange. I guess it's pretty dangerous if your house were to get set on fire." Abigail says.

"Is that why you're a miner? Since darkness doesn't really bother you?" Stephanie asks.

 

"It's the Terra side of me, but yes. All Terras are insensitive to light, thus why we make good miners."

 

"That... that was what I was worried about. I have to say, I've seen some disturbing visions in the Void Palace, but this is the worst I've seen."

"I was expecting downtime, especially as Mistress needs a rest. Any book recommendations?"

 

She points upstairs, to the right, then behind you.
"If you can keep track of that, there are novels there. Historical records are third floor, above the entrance."

 

"Thank you!"
Arnold goes to the second floor and follows Ruby's directions to the novels. He looks through them for a language he can recognise.

 

"That's really weird. I guess it does come in handy though, as you've said." Abigail says.

"So, you're insensitive to light, and sunlight harms you?" Stephanie asks.

"Sorry. Just, don't tell Aj or Artemis about it. I've kept them in the dark about it, if they were to find out he...well...you know...then they'd probably torture him to death in revenge for me," Abigail says, "Until recently, only Katie and I knew about it. As much as I hate him, I got my revenge. He probably doesn't deserve more people coming after him."

Abigail turns to Stephanie, "Sorry for lying about Nathan." She says sincerely.

"It's fine. I just don't get how someone could be that horrible." Stephanie says, before smashing her love potion on the ground.

"Some people can't handle rejection, I guess." Abigail says, smiling.

 

His language is right there.
She knew...?

"Sunlight doesn't hurt, I'm just nocturnal. Sunlight makes me sleepy."

 

"Hmm. I guess being awake now is messing with your schedule." Stephanie says.

"It'll be a little hard to work with someone who's going to be asleep while we're fighting, and awake whilst we're sleeping." Abigail says, laughing slightly.

 

"I can help with night watch, but yeah, I was worried about that. Luckily, part of being a Terra is having extreme stamina."

 

"Technically, I don't need to sleep, since I gain energy from darkness. It's still nice to once in a while though." I say.

"We don't want to get ambushed whilst we're sleeping; I guess more people on the night watch isn't a bad thing." Abigail says, smiling.

"I think I have a few potions that can help with drowsiness, if you feel tired." Stephanie says.

 

"Exposure to sunlight causes me to fall asleep, even though I can't see it. I'll be fine in the shade."

 

A rather dark crystal appears in my palm, which I delicately pick up and drop in front of Reed. The area around the crystal turns dark.

"Try holding that." I say.

 

He puts it in a pocket in his robe.
"Does it do anything?"

 

A dark aura surrounds Reed, and the area around him becomes darker.

"Cloaks you in darkness. I figured it might help since you fall asleep in sunlight." I say.
