"I refuse to disclose anymore information." I whisper to Stephanie, "It has a part of my soul."

 

"Not at the moment. Feel free to look around, one of the other servants can tote you around. Maybe visit my library, that seems to be popular among my servants."

OOC: He's mistaking you for those who work with The Hive.
Also, she's dead.

He's crying too hard to say it; seems reliving those memories was far from a good thing.

 

"Thank you, my liege." I say. I wait for a draconian to bring me to the library.

"Now then, we're not from The Hive, ok? We're ,AHEM, probably the good guys, ok? You're free now."

 

"Does it have any magical properties tied to it?" Stephanie asks.

"Say it!" I shout.

 

"I'm not sure. It's Arnold's totem, not mine."

 

You can barely hear him utter "Hamburger buns" before he goes back to begging for mercy.

One does so.
"I don't know the language you can read, so you'll have to tell me when you start understanding titles."
He starts walking around the edge of the library.

 

"Alright." I survey the books for a title I can understand.

 

You come across a series of textbooks with titles you understand.
Looking around a bit more, the whole wall section is covered with them.
Journals, memoirs, records, encyclopedias...

 

"I can understand this section. How about that one" I say, motioning to a record.

 

"Sure."
He pulls it off the shelf and opens it, holding your totem in front of the pages.

It seems to be a record from a church. The numbers of followers, a few notes, and comparisons to competing religions and their followings litter the pages.

 

"Ugh, religion. How about that one?" I say, motioning to a journal.

 

He replaces the book on the shelf and opens the journal.

...it seems to be a lab book of a student's. The experiments are simple, but they're easy to understand and the calculations make sense.

 

"Ugh, just experiments." I motion to a memoir. "How about that one?"

"Man, you guys are terrible. This guy held a blade to my neck,"
"And possibly threw a lance in my leg,"
I say a bit quieter.
"And I'm not planning on doing anything to him. For you, he just has to be here, doesn't he?"

 

He swaps books again.

It seems to be a recollection of a high-ranking general's early life. Seems like another story of someone managing to make it big and get off the farms, but his discussion of why he lost a pivotal battle is surprisingly honest; it was written as a conversation between him and the enemy general.

 

"I'm not even sure how you're somehow scared of asking his name."

"Mhm, interesting. I wonder if...nah." I continue to read it, specifically the strategies and tactics he used.

The defeated general used a phalanx formation to bottleneck his opponent's forces in a valley, sending small squads of archers to rain arrows on their back lines. It worked well until his opponent sent two squadrons on each side of the valley, routed the archers, and faked a retreat with his main force to draw the general's front line into the open, using the same tactic against him.
When his escape route was cut off, the general and remaining soldiers were taken prisoner, though little effort was made to torture them; they willingly answered most of the questions posed to them.

 

"Impressive play. Though I must admit, he should have had some protection for his archers." I read through, looking to see if there are any mentions of cavalry.

 

Not on his side, but it was mentioned earlier that most to all of the cavalry was engaging in a much larger battle directly on the border.
Only the opposing general and his officers were on horseback.

 

"I can see the reason for using the cavalry there...but they should have saved some cavalry to attempt to outflank the enemy. Wait, why am I criticizing this anyways? How about that book over there instead." I motion to another memoir.
