"I... have no idea."

"We plan to keep our distance. We know we're not exactly being welcomed with open arms. We'll have to build something, though. Fortunately, they have Chronos doing just about every job. I think we'll be able to sustain ourselves."

 

Abigail just giggles, smiling.

Artemis pulls the arrow out from my neck, stopping the paralysis.

"Ow...please don't do that again." I say, getting up.

"I think we have a problem." Artemis says, pointing to Abigail.

 

"Xlentia wants the staff to kill me!" Ihra shrieks.

 

"What?" I say.

Abigail notices me and pounces toward me, "Aj!" She says excitedly.

I step out of the way, causing Abigail to fall onto the ground. Abigail gets up and quickly pounces again, knocking me to the ground.

Artemis sighs exhaustedly.

 

"Well, let's find them then."
I fly towards Brisingr.

 

"Artemis, why don't you just put Abigail to sleep?"

"Coming."
She stays pretty close behind you.
"Thanks for your hospitality."

 

Artemis clicks her fingers, and Abigail and I fall asleep.

"Well...I guess that sorts out one problem..." Artemis says.

Abigail and I lay unconscious next to each other. Artemis picks up her pillow and gently puts it under my head.

 

"But now what? Aj's technically an enemy now. I dunno what to do."
Ihra hugs Artemis, staring blankly at the ground.

 

"Well, he hasn't really sworn allegiance with Xlentia; as he'd probably have taken your staff to give to her by now if he had. He seems to be in a neutral position: He isn't exactly working for Xlentia, but he won't attack her if she tries to attack us." Artemis says, hugging Ihra warmly.

Abigail purrs in her sleep.

 

"Okay... I guess. That kinda makes sense. Are you the same way now too?"

 

"No, I'm still on your side. I don't know what Xlentia did, but I haven't been affected by it." Artemis says happily.

 

"Alright. Maybe the Fellak evolved?"

 

"That's good. I hope Stephanie's okay, though. I didn't mean to make her feel bad."

 

"I'm...not sure what's up with her. I think she might be in one of her moods." Artemis says, looking at Stephanie.

Stephanie faces away from everyone, sitting on the ground looking at nothing in particular.

 

I just look at Stephanie, thinking.
I don't move.

 

"Your thanks are not required. And rest assured that your council shall be called by whatever name you please, this world or that one."

"I mean we could... Sneak in? Stab them all in the back?"

"We could try driving them against each other, so they'd just decimate themselves."

"Or or or or or... We could have Xephyr turn into a crazy bloodlusting maniac like before, and have her rush and murder everyone."

 

She bows.
"I suppose we're used to being called the Timekeeper's Council. We will do our best to stay out of your way once we settle down, if we find a place that's not obstructive. I was warned that there are many in this world who would rather have our heads than our thanks."

"Sneak into a trap. I don't think that's how it works."

"Vei has a point there. Turning them on each other might work, but neither of us have mind control. Also, I didn't turn into a crazy bloodlusting maniac, somebody threatened an innocent child and I simply made a show of power out of their foolishness."

She scratches Avis' chin, smiling at her.

 

"Very well. Also, you're looking for a place, I'd suggest head for the center of Brisingr, this kingdom. No regular mortal should be able to get to you there."

Khione frowns "No. You sneak around the trap. The southern side of the camp is always left open. All we'd have to do would be to kill the leader-"

"That doesn't work."

"So you're saying if I want you to murder the enemy, I have to threaten a child?" Kalais blinks dumbly

OCC: Also you can expect Avis is responding with purring or nuzzling and stuff. Honestly it just gets really repetitive writing the same reactions over and over.

"I want to make sure the rest of my Council, or at least some of them - I'll take what I can get, and this is already a gift greater than my creation - before I make a move. I may be their leader, but what is a leader without their people?"
Another two portals, another two draconians. They're a bit weary, but seem unwounded.
"Milo, Fay..."
"Lyla, you made it..."
"I can't believe this is happening."
"Neither can I. Meet Reflet, the goddess who offered us sanctuary."
The two bow.
"If only we could express the direness of our situation..."
"Escape is still surreal."

"If you threaten a child that isn't mine, I'll probably smack you with my tome. Threaten Avis and you die. I can expend my energy at will, but it's been a while since I've seen a dusk... I can't keep going forever. A cave would work for me to rest, if we found one."

 

"The rest are still traversing alright?"

"I'd kill him first..."

"Right, come on, Kal." Zethes and Kalais disappear as the wind picks up. They return a few minutes later.

"Well-"

"-We're-"

"-in luck-,"

"-there's a-"

"-cave just-"

"-due east-"

"-From here." They finish in unison
