Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Yes, I have many staffs."
He opens a chest, which contains about a dozen different staffs. Some seem to be just ordinary wood staffs, except with carved runes, while others are more ornate.
One staff seems to stand out even more from the others. It seems to be made from a metal. The metal seems to be a cross between silver and iron. A red crystal is on the top. The red crystal is held in place by a golden scale, which seems to shine even with the lighting in the room, and a black scale, which almost seems to be decaying.

After a while, Arnold sharply turns left.
"Forgot the size of Fellak. It seems larger than it used to be. We need to go around it, or we might have some problems."

 

"Xlentia likely damaged him more than he thought. Once she has someone in her grasp, nobody's ever escaped. Virei'tus, however, has the power to cancel her nullifications. That's why we need to awaken him. According to mother, at least. She'd utterly destroy us otherwise."

"Are there any particulary... powerful staffs? Perchance able to stand up to a chronomancer's needs?"

 

"What? Xlentia's really nice! So, I know you're against her, but I had a nice heart-to-heart chat with her. Turns out, she's not evil! She's just trying to save her brother by using your staff as a distraction," I say cheerily, "Also, Abigail escaped her grasp...in a sense."

Abigail's cat ears perk up at the mention of her name, yet she keeps drawing regardless.

Katie keeps hugging Ihra.

 

"She wants to destroy our world! Why can't she just let our people evacuate?!"

 

"Hmm... the silver one is the most powerful one. When I used to be in the world I knew, I was a collector of magical items, all of which I have now moved here. Some were given by people who wanted to help me, others I found on various adventures. That one is the only one which was neither, at least I'm sure it wasn't. I was on a ship heading towards the 'Wild Islands', when a heavy storm hit our ship. Something knocked me unconscious from behind. When I woke up, I was shook awake by someone, now back in Runetrel. The person said that everyone else on the ship was dead and everything was destroyed, except a staff which I was washed ashore with. Except, there hadn't been a staff like it on the ship. I haven't tried using it myself, but the materials it's made out of... nobody would make a staff out of them unless they had a good reason."

 

"As I remember, she wanted to save your race; not the broken remains of your world. That's what her brother is doing, and she feels really sad about him." I say happily, smiling.

 

"May I try to use it?" Sarin seems interested, hands appearing slightly distorted to onlookers.

"That's much different than she was when she destroyed three of the islands... I'm confused now."

 

"Yes, you can."

 

"I'm sure you could just lend her your staff, and when she's done with it she'll just give it back. We're besties, and that's what besties do. They trust each other!" I say happily, "Did you know Xlentia has this massive treasure hoard she sleeps on? It's sooooo cooooool!"

Abigail looks at me, before flipping a page in her notebook and scribbling.

 

Sarin takes the staff, examining it for any marks, seals, or anything that may trigger a trap.
If she doesn't detect any, she tries to create a small time flux in front of her.

"She intends to destroy it. And the world. I hate her. Also, why are you friends with her? I thought you said it was hypo... hypo... something!!"

 

She doesn't detect any traps on the staff.
The staff does seem extremely cold to touch, however. The red crystal starts to glow slightly, which causes the golden scale to shine even more and the black scale to emanate darkness even more.

 

I gasp, "Don't insult my bestie like that! She is a pure hearted individual who only wishes the best for your people. It's low for you to insult someone as awesome and powerful as her! I think you need to reconsider your words, young lady!" I say, annoyed.

 

"Mind if I take this off your hands?"
She checks her claws for any recoil melting.

"She is a being of darkness that leaves corpses or servants in her wake. She's not who she used to be!"

 

"Well I think those servants probably deserved it. If they think it's alright to slack off under Xlentia's amazing kindness to give them an easy job, they deserve death!" I say defensively, "She might be different from the Xlentia you know, but I can assure you she is not evil! She is a great being who only wants the best for everyone."

Abigail giggles to herself, scribbling in her notebook.

Artemis opens her eyes, and sits up; looking around.

 

"She wants to kill off my kind. That makes her my enemy. Did she make you her servant too?"

 

"What? No! We're total besties. She showed me around her museum and hoard and stuff," I say, "And anyway, I don't know who's been telling you that delirious biznasty, but I can say for certain she does not want to kill off your kind. She wants to save it god dammit!"

Artemis puts her quiver on, and holds her bow ready.

 

"She wants to wipe us and our world out. I know our world's lost, but why can't she just help us escape...? How can you side with her?!"

 

"As I remember, her brother is helping you escape; and when he's done she'll do whatever," I say, "And I can side with her because she makes sense. We're besties. Besties don't go against each other. Bestie code yo."

 

"Sure! I have plenty of magical items here and even though I like them, it is better for one of them to be used than to sit here for the rest of eternity."
Sarin's claws don't seem to be melting. The cold seems to come from the metal most of the staff is made from.

 

"Then you remember wrong. She's not helping us escape, she wants to end our world and her brother."

"Thank you, sir. I'll do my best to keep it in good condition."
Sarin heads for the exit of the tower, then Eras.
