Skulduggery Pleasant, a story of a girl wanting to learn about the world into which she would've been dragged into anyway sometime.
After you read all nine books, I recommend you to read it again. I swear there sure are some twists.

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, two guys search for a magician, accidently find one who later makes stone statues talk and scream and whatnot. folks be fascinated. Magician then wants to open school in london and teach magicks. I've read only one-third of the book but it's pretty interesting so far.

I have only been reading philosophy books or old literature books recently… I absolutely loved them all. My favorites that I read last year and this year are:

    • Jane Eyre
    • The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
    • Wuthering Heights
    • Thus Spake Zarathustra (my one favorite book)
    • The World as Will and Representation
    • Paradise Lost
    • Shakespeare’s poems (I think everyone should read all of them)
    • Atlas Shrugged (currently reading)
Most of those are either adult level or high school level, I guess. Very good, they all touch your soul and teach a lot.

    Also, you should try:

    The Giver
The Hunger Games (and all its sequels)
    Divergent (currently reading)

They all have a similar theme to them. Wouldn't be surprised that the fans of the Hunger Games like the Giver and Divergent.

The Maze Runner can also be considered similar, but it also is a bit different from the rest. They are all good Sci-Fi books, though.

The "Eragon" books were good but not as much romance as there could have been...
"Divergent" was amazing but the ending of "Allegiant" was horrible (Thank the fates for the movie ending being changed)
"I Am Four" was good but I've only read the first 3 or 4 cuz at the time that was all that was out....
"The First Stone" is good, but if you want to see the rest of the ending you'll have to read "The Fifth Rule" and the third book coming out sometime this year-ish

For fantasy, I'd recommend Guardians of Ga'hoole series and Wolves of the Beyond. Both written by Kathryn Lasky.

For fictional horror, I'd suggest Zom-B series by Darren Shan
Also. Although it sounds cheesy to suggest a Vampire book, this series is incredibly great: Cirque de Freak series, also written by Darren Shan

These are some of my favorite books/series out there

Omg I loved the Guardians of Ga'hoole! It was great. :yum:

Also I'd like to mention "Bloodlines".
Its a young adult book that happens chronologically after the "Vampire Academy" series and it is pretty awesome. As long as your ok with some Romance as well as Action

Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, haven't read all the posts.

I'd recommend any book from Terry Pratchett. Mainly his Discworld universe. For example Color of magic, Mort. Very unique fantasy with great humour and ideas. :D

Yes ^^^ I first mentioned it. Thanks for highlighting it - and it really does reinforce the recommendation. You are the 3rd person to mention it, so PEOPLE ....this is good stuff - humour and satire - perhaps aimed at the young adult to adult audience, tho easy enough to read at middle school level. I also mentioned one should try anything in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams (& the detective series) and a slew of Irish authors (including Eoin Colfer) who have similar humour, ranging from some elementary-age books to adult.

Love this one, in the middle of reading it! It's often made me laugh aloud, but I'm weird.
Fantastic read, especially if you're into arrogant female main characters.

Also, the Maximum Ride series is good, really yanks at your imagination - in a good way. Kids with wings. Can get a little obscure at times (moreso in the later books, I believe there's a total of 3), but the humor of the main character Max never failed to make me awkwardly stifle laughter in the midst of class. Good days.
