Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Abigail forces the magma backwards as we speed through, hoping to hold the creature back.

After a short while, the three of us emerge in the large hole I dug. The lava erupts upwards, forcing us out.

We land on the ground just next to the hole, and I change my fish tail back to normal legs.

"Why do I feel as if we're forgetting something...?" Abigail says, forcing the lava back down into the hole.

Artemis gasps, "We left Idala back in that cave!" She says, shocked.

I sigh, "I'll go get her." I say, holding the crystal of Artemis' necklace; it glows faintly. After a short moment, I disappear.

 

"M-master...? Are you... okay?"

Rineth drags Artemis and Abigail away from the hole with his tail.
"If that thing comes out, I'm willing to bet you don't want to be standing there..."
Ihra stands on his snout.
"I'd kill for a good nap," she yawns.

 

Artemis yawns too, as does Abigail.

"Weren't you just sleeping?" Artemis says, giving Ihra an odd look.

I re-appear, laying the unconscious Idala on the ground. I seem to be back to my normal size.

"Welcome back; did you see the monster down there?" Abigail asks.

"The cave was empty, save for Idala," I say, "Whatever it is, it definitely followed us."

I stretch, "Ugh, why do I feel so drained?" I say, somewhat exhausted.

"You should probably hold off on using your powers too much." Artemis says, concern in her voice.

 

On the surface, nothing happens for a few minutes.
Then the creature erupts out of the ground a few metres away from the hole.

Eras suddenly snaps out of his trance. The creature immediately disappears into darkness, as well as the other creatures above. The strange lightning around Eras also fades.
"He left... good... what the... no... I can't have..."

 

"Were you behind this?" Artemis asks, looking at Eras suspiciously.

"WHAT THE HECK MAN!?" Abigail shouts suddenly.

I decide to lie down on the ground, and stare at the sky. I yawn, putting my hands behind my head.

 

"If you mean the darkness, ground shaking and mysterious creature trying to kill you in hundreds of different ways, then yes. If you mean the demigod, then no, that was... actually, you could put this all down to me... but... to be honest, I'm trying to understand HOW this happened."

You feel the telepathic link with Daras again.
Well... that was interesting. I didn't notice much of what happened, since I wasn't there, but I felt Eras doing something he knows he should never try. And he told me that he would never do that unless... nevermind, he shouldn't have done that. I'm trying to ask him what happened, but he's trying to shut me off from his mind. Also, thanks for taking the reflection away. Just make sure that crystal doesn't break. If it breaks, the reflection can just go back to Idala. It is still linked to her completely. Not only that, but it is still always watching her.

 

"Well, in future, could you maybe not summon horrors from beyond to try and murder us?" Abigail says, annoyed.


"We know all your secrets." I think in an corrupted, child-like tone.

"I don't know how long that crystal will last," I think, "I wasn't really intending for it to act as a permanent source, more of something to show the reflection what it's up against."

"I could probably form a larger crystal with all that dirt I dug up; it'd be much stronger so the reflection would have a much harder time breaking out." I think.

 

"It is hard not to if you see someone who shouldn't exist... not like that anyway."

That might help, but I think that something might come across it in the end. I wasn't there and Idala wasn't conscious enough to let me sense what happened through her. All I sensed was the reflection leaving her; she wasn't strong enough for me to sense anything else. What did you notice about the reflection? Did it try to escape at any point?

 

Abigail doesn't seem pleased, nor does Artemis.


"I believe it summoned skeletons to try and smash the crystal to let it escape," I think, "I'm really tempted to just kill this reflection and face whatever consequences that has."

I yawn, gazing at the clouds as they roll by.

 

If there are consequences. There likely are some to do with magic like this, but the problem is, nobody has ever destroyed a reflection before. Hmm... skeletons... definitely necromancy. Very few people use necromancy and I happen to know only one person who uses it. And that definitely wasn't the reflection.

 

"If you want me to kill that reflection, I'm going to kill it." I think, "I've had just about enough of it."

Artemis walks over to me, "What are you doing?" She asks, looking down at me.

"I'm just cloud gazing..." I say lazily.

"Sure..." Artemis says sceptically, lying down next to me.

"Heh, that cloud looks like a dog." I say, trying to keep my thoughts clear.

 

"Master, what was... What?!"

 

"Create-out-of-drelsh summon. It's a new breakthrough for magic. A lot of times dragons don't want to give up their young, so we have to improvise a little."

The dragon leaps at your tail, fast in comparison to it's shaky walking. It continues jumping at your tail, swatting it and trying (failing) to bite it.

 

I look curiously at Riihs, and then whisper "Uhm, what just happened?" I appear to still be studying the spellbook.

 

"Can you really blame them? Still, it sounds impressive."
I start playfighting with it, poking it with my tail.

"If this is a problem for the training process, let me know."

"Not sure, this world is beyond me."

 

The dragon bounces back parrying your blows with it's tiny tail as best it can.

"It's not a problem. Lucky for you, it's tail doesn't become acidic until it's at least year old."

 

"Luckily for me, I'm resistant to corrosion and melting. Yeah, I hate fire, but I didn't used to be scorched."

I use my tail to flip it on its back and press gently on its stomach, seeing how it reacts.

 

"Interesting. Most of our dragons are immune to heat, but hardly any to poison and the like."

The dragon flails about awkwardly.

 

"I figured you knew that I'm not one of your dragons. We've got ones who are immune to electricity, can't drown, don't need to breathe, can pass through physical objects... I'm just an ex-quarry worker."
I release it from the pin, rolling it back on its feet if it fails to do so itself.

 

"Everyone in the city knows. We have dragons who fit almost all of those categories, but they're rare. There's been dragons literally made out of electricity before."

The dragon releases an odd toothless grin, before gnawing on your tail.
