Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"I... I'm sorry I brought it up."
I scan our surroundings.
"Well... Should we get going?"

"I turned myself into one. We all did at some point."

 

"Don't worry about it. Yes, let's go." He stretches his wings, testing them, before jumping off the ground and gliding. It takes him a bit, but he eventually gains elevation and starts flying regularly.

 

I repeat this a few times, with each time the tugging getting stronger than the last. Finally, there is a short, yet very painful tug. I close my eyes. "Close your eyes to neutralize the pain."

 

"I assume that's why your daughter didn't want to see you as part-robot?" Darnth says.

"I'll be back! You've just been terminated by the terminator!" I say with an accented tone, trying to cheer up Abigail.

 

I follow him from below.
"We're headed back. I didn't know this was Yhrey's friend," I reach out to Reflet.
"The rider wanted the weapon you held from him, but if he's willing to kill an innocent to get it, it's too dangerous to let him have it..."

He obeys.

No, wounds. This is before an invasion, before Tirai died. Before Vesius was created. She's bad with machinery, though. Probably why she didn't want to play the game she was offered to join."

 

"While there are advantages to be had with replacing parts of your body with robotic parts, it becomes harder to heal. Without specific magic, metal needs to be restored manually. Flesh, however, can be healed by normal healing magic." Darnth says, "It's to be expected your daughter would want to see you before everything went wrong."

Abigail, Artemis and I seem to be working on making a tortoise of some kind.

 

"What surprises me is that this is proof she can use memories of her ancestors. Thing is, she never saw me like this... I didn't know the staff was that able."

 

"Perhaps it was a mix of the staffs power and her imagination," Darnth says, "She had an image of you in her mind, and the staff simply took the image she had and attached it to a memory."


"Why isn't it working?" I say, confused, pressing a button atop the smiling tortoise, or possibly a turtle.

"How did the guy make the first one? I think...drunk science or something?" Abigail says.

"So you're saying we should get drunk and it'll make this thing work?" Artemis asks doubtfully.

I summon 3 coloured bottles on the ground in front of me, "Worth a shot." I say, passing two of the bottles to Artemis and Abigail.

 

I sit back, watching AJ, Artemis, and Abigail.
"This is going to be fun."
I mutter, knowing exactly what they're trying to make.

 

"That can't be. The bodies are exactly the same, hold material. The wounds I suffered were too grievous, it was how I chose to cheat death."

"What is that...?" Ihra looks at the turtle-like thing.

 

"I think ish redy." I say drunkenly.

Abigail presses the button on the possibly turtle possibly tortoises back. It says "Hello!" in a sweet voice.

"It worksh it worksh it worksh!" Abigail says excitedly, slurring her words.

The turtle explodes.

"There seems to be powers of the staff I do not know about, then," Darnth admits, "Probably best we don't question it."


"Ish mine turtle!" Artemis says, clearly drunk. She holds up another turtle, a button on its back. It smiles at Ihra, and says "Hello!" in a sweet voice.

"Presh der buttern!" I slur, falling over.

 

I laugh lightly.
"Ihra, if you don't like being part of explosions, then I recommend that you DON'T press the button."

 

Seeing what happened with the last, she blasts it (and you three as collateral) with a thunderbolt from her staff.
She looks something between scared and surprised.

"The staff isn't a normal weapon, but its history has been forgotten... primarily due to its curse."

 

Abigail claps excitedly.

"Button!" She half shouts, "Hahaha, butt-on."

Artemis seems rather frazzled, as do I. Abigail seems fine.

"Another one." I say in a serious tone.

"Wait wait wait, WAIT." Artemis says, putting her hands on my shoulders, "What if we ushed it on Narre?" She whispers.

I gasp, "That shounds like sush a good idea..."

"We should totally ushe it on Nyrrre..." Artemis whispers.

"I can whishper quieter than yoou." Abigail whispers.


"The curse that the previous wielder is forgotten?" Darnth asks.

Darnth looks over at the three of us, "What are you three doing?" He says in a commanding voice.

"Oh, uhh, nothing fartherr!" Artemis says innocently, trying to not sound drunk.

Darnth snaps his fingers, and a green aura surrounds our heads, before shocking us.

"Aww, you killed my buzz!" Abigail says, annoyed, rubbing her head.

 

For a full minute there is pure blackness, nothingness. If either of us opened our eyes, we would still see nothing. Finally, after another minute of nothingness, I awaken in the prisoner's body, and the dark crystal in front of me is glowing. "Ah, an organic body. Finally. I hope you like your crystal, because you're going to be my companion. But first, tell me your name." I stand up and grab my bags from the now lifeless wooden body. I then put the spellbook behind the bookshelf again.

"The curse is what we call true decay; upon death, the wielder is forgotten by all... except the next wielder. In true decay, all traces and memories are wiped. Itms similar, so we use the term."

Ihra looks at you funnily.
"You tried to kill me! How can you enjoy that?!"

"Leo." The crystal faintly echoes.

 

"That seems awful; I'm beginning to question why someone would want such a burden." Darnth says, concerned.

"Pfft, it wouldn't kill you. It was only a small one, we're saving the actually dangerous ones for proper use." I say, smiling.

 

"She doesn't know, and for good reason... but its better in her hands than our enemies'."

 

"Good. That's what I'm introducing you as now. I think I'll change my name to...Drake! Count Drake! Has a nice ring to it." I grab my sword and hide it in one of my bags. I pick up the crystal. "Don't worry, you don't need to eat without a physical form." I then grab the wooden body and carry it with me outside the stronghold, far enough from it, but not close enough to be seen by Riihs and the others. "Now to create my story." I grab a pocket knife and stick it into the side of the wooden body. "What do you think?" I ask Leo.

 

"I doubt she ever will, considering the curse." Darnth says, glancing at Ihra, "She seems pure of heart; powerful items in the wrong hands can lead to untold destruction."

Darnth seems a little mournful, but regains his composure.
