"There's a bloody trail down here. I'm following it... And the blood's gold."

 

"UH WHAT WAS THAT SOMETHING MOVED HELP IS IT GOING TO KILL ME HELP?"
(Not a scream; just a very, very bold, half-yelling statement???)

 

"It's the breeze... You're excitable."

"WELL YOU JUST TOLD ME THAT THERE'S BAD THINGS HERE???"
Lazarus is trembling in fear- He would be sweating if he actually had sweat glands.

 

Abigail whispers something to me.

"No, I'm not going to blast her with an Air Horn." I say.

Artemis glares at Abigail.

"Wh-What? I didn't say that! I said we should make her comfortable!" Abigail lies.

 

"Have you ever been outside your zoo? Because right now, I could mistake you for an exhibit."

Vei splashes cold water over Abigail's face.
"Ah, somebody shouldn't mess with my daighter..."

 

Abigail screams, writhing in pain. Her hair turns from firey red to ash grey.

"That probably wasn't the best idea..." I say.

"I never said I was going to blast her with an Air Horn..." Abigail says weakly.

 

"Don't lie to me or I'll soak you until you drop. I can read your mind; I know what you told him."

 

"Try me, drown an unarmoured Flame Guardian," Abigail says, coughing, "I'm sure you'd derive some sort of pleasure from that, wouldn't you? Sicko."

"Abigail, I think it's best you don't aggravate her." Artemis advises.

"I can read your mind," Abigail manages to say, "I want to drown this defenseless girl because she tried to have some fun."

I shake my head in disappointment.

"Try me then, see how long I last. I'm sure you'll love it you twisted weirdo." Abigail says, looking up with determination.

 

"How twisted would it be to do that to my daughter."
She grabs Ihra's staff, holds it in the center of her ring of tomes, and Abigail's reaction to the water is reversed entirely.

"I've never seen pleasure for millennia. I don't doubt you'd break that."

She leans Ihra's staff against Rineth.

 

I walk up close to AJ.
"I may be AI to you,"
I say, softly,
"But I am FAR from a game."
I appear a bit annoyed.

 

"Well, I've been out and about on the island. My creators decided that it was unusual for an intelligent being to be locked up in a cage albiet that's basically what modern education is oh no i'm breaking the fourth wall again People used to be freaked out that there was something of a cyborg non-avian dinosaur walking around on the streets and playing video games with them, but they got used to it. Well, the kids didn't. They always play with my fluff. I hate it. I hate everything about someone touching me. Just... no. Meanwhile my creators never used anything from a raven genome ever again. Oh, sorry... Like, I get a little... erm... let's just say... 'expositional' at times." Lazarus realizes he needs to stop breaking the fourth wall.

 

"So you hate people touching you, but you're... I'm just going to stop thinking about it. We're about a quarter of the way through this forest."

A chill runs down your spine, but you can't tell what it is.

 

"Well, this is an awfully small forest if going this far through only took a few sentences- but snap crackle pop this place is spooky. It's like that girl from The Ring, y'now? Small, but really spooky." Lazarus realises that movie probably doesn't exist in this universe because I doubt people watch/create movies in Magic Mainland and his little archipelago isn't exactly the type for horror.

 

I reorganize the light in front of Aj so there's a bright GAME OVER blinking in his vision.

 

"It isn't really a small forest. I've just bent time and you haven't noticed."
She turns to you, looking impatient.
"As a fellow artificial genetic creation, I'm unimpressed by you."

 

"Ah... O-okay."

The trail leads you to the forest's edge, where the trees tower, covered with overgrowth. Two bodies of heavily armored soldiers lean on the very first trees, unmoving but with seemingly no injuries. The trees border the bloody path, which winds around a thicket and out of sight.

 

I walk towards them, then by them if possible.
If there's a reaction, then I'll go under them.
