Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Artemis sighs.

"I-I'll try to get used to it," she says "She seems useful if we end up running into anyone who wants to kill us."

I smile at Artemis.

 

Ihra runs up and hugs Artemis.
"I like flowers!"
Rineth sighs.

 

Artemis gives a shocked expression as she's knocked back a little.

I pick up some dirt in both hands, and Artemis causes a little yellow flower to sprout in it.

 

Ihra steps back, looking sheepish.
"Sorry."
Rineth picks her up and puts her on his back.

 

Artemis ponders something for a second, then lifts both hands. Vines and flowers start to emerge from the ground in front of Ihra and Rineth.

The vines begin to wrap around each other until a large, flowery Vine Golem stands there. It offers a rose to Ihra.

"See? Golems aren't that scary!" Artemis says happily.

 

Ihra's extremely hesitant, but takes the rose. She looks bitter, but smiles slightly when looking at the flower.

Rineth glances at the two of you, keeping focus on the golem.
"Sorry she was blunt about it." He mutters.
You notice that you can see yourself when looking straight at the staff's crystal.

 

I try to avert my eyes from the crystal, but Artemis just stares.

"Pretty..." She drones

I cover Artemis' eyes.

"Hey!" She protests, trying to move my hand.

 

"The only difference is that your bodies weren't destroyed." Rineth mumbles.

Ihra falls asleep, slumped on Rineth's back.
"Oh boy. Exciting day, apparently..."

 

"Ah finally!" I say, relieved.

I lie down on the floor and sleep.

"Why is everyone sleeping all of a sudden?" Artemis asks, confused.

 

He gets out equipment and sets it up. One of which is a pair quantum-entanglement test devices (Quantum entanglement is essentially when two particles have the same state and change together, no matter the distance) which he places in and out of the tunnel. He also places a Geiger counter (measures radiation) in the tunnel and some other gadgets measuring energy. Bowie is now perched on his shoulder.

 

"This is her idea of a way to kill time. As for AJ, I have no idea. Though, I need to tell you... Ihra is a necromancer, but only in a sense. It's her staff's power, not hers. She wasn't lying when she said she wasn't one, but... You scared her. She can only bring back those she has seen die, and even then the bodies she gives them are from her memories of them, projections of the staff's power."

You quickly encounter a problem: The device you try to put in the tunnel disintegrates, taking you by surprise. The pieces are still there, it's just horribly deformed.

The Geiger counters read standard background radiation levels when pointed at the tunnel.

 

"Well, ain't that nice?"
He starts toying around with the temperature gauges and a bunch more random measuring gadgets.
Bowie is frightened.

 

One of the guards runs over to you. They have a laser measure.
"Hey, Lazarus! Come look at this... If you take a measuring tape, the tunnel is about five feet wide... If you take a laser measure and point it at the tape at the other side from where you are... As long as it's through the tunnel... Here, take a look."

He points it while kneeling next to you. He holds the display so you can see it.
...It reads three feet, even though there's roughly a foot between the tape and the tunnel on each side.

 

"Wow. That means that she can slow down time at least 3 times as much. This also means she has to mess up gravity. That makes a lot of sense now... But how?"

 

"I can't believe the mages got ahead of us..." The guard mutters.
"We thought we were leagues ahead when we created you, but this? This is nothing like we've seen out of them before."

 

"Probably because we haven't been competing with them for god knows how long. They have so much threats over there they have to adapt and evolve, while we got rid of everything threatening. Plus, at least we have modern medicine, right?"

 

"True, very good point. Their healers wouldn't be nearly as effective or as fast as what we have in the medical field. Though, with that as a display of escape, I can only hope..."
He looks bitter.
"Sorry to interrupt your train of thought. I'm headed back upstairs, there's still work to be done."
He starts up the stairs.
The crowd outside is starting to sound a bit restless.

 

Lazarus decides to go back to the office.

 

"...." "What walls?"

 

By the time you get back, it seems to be sunrise.
The normal clock says it's already evening. The clock you have set says it's closer to when the zoo should actually be opening.

Everything seems to be operating normally.

...There's still that missing med-bot that's going to need to be found, else you have some lovely paperwork to fill out.

The draconian with the axe and lance vanishes.
"I mean, other magic wells. They amplify your power, don't they? Do you know if there are others?"

...If the hatchling keeps gnawing at the tree like it is, it'll get crushed.
