Why Is There So Much Server Lag?

    Most likely the amount of players, and the plugins.
    Usually they find a way to fix it. But I haven't seen much Server lag lately.

    The only times I encounter it is when I'm on a horse. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

    No, but I believe in 1.9 the horses will be less laggy, that's what I remember being in like, the latest snapshot
