My Thoughts On Wynn Excavation

So this is my personal opinion, so many may disagree but just hear me out.

Wynn Excavation was really cool. It was a series of quests with a bit boss fight at the end. But 4 was enough. They made the end really fitting. You help the rebels take down the leader of the secret society just as he unlocks the super powerful gems.

But not really.

Just hear me out.

I agree having more than 4 quests in the series is alot, but I really don't like the way it ended. Like as a series it ended fantastic, but not from a lore point of view. The society is run by the high and mighty of Gavel. But the closest thing we ever see to government in Gavel is the guild hall and the dwarf king in Thanos. We don't see any kings or leaders or anything like that. And I believe it was confirmed by some mods there would not be any more WE stuff in the fallow up update, but I may be wrong.

That's just the first part. Secondly if you look around Gavel you can find various easter eggs talking about Gavel Excavation. What's that all about? Wynn Excavation but in Gavel? Please tell me that's more than just an easter egg.

But in my opinion the most disturbing part was not even part of Wynn Excavation. This may just be cuz of the Ancient City stuff, but listen.

There are 5 marked Wynn Excavation sites. Sites A-D are used in the quests. In a temple in the jungle there is also WE crates marked Site E. Now they probobly just left after finding no crystals. But there is another site not marked with a letter.

The abandoned mines.

In a cave in the abandoned mines there are WE crates. Now we linked the abandoned mines to Dern a hella long time ago, and the info that existed since site D came out (but we only learned now) connects the Ancients and the Eye to Dern.

So how can we just end Wynn Excavation when we have so many loose ends about WE that need to be patched up?

I think from a quest point of view they ended it great, but really badly from a lore point of view.

Well the quests make the lore, don't they? So yes, they do need to.

 

In my opinion, WynnExcavation was just one of the biggest plans of the secret unnamed society to gain power and control, and that the entire community is at least 3 times bigger than the WE. Sure, WE had a leader, but this was just the leader of the Excavation mission, and probably one of the highest ranked people in the society who went obsessed with thought of unlimited power and absorbed the crystals all by himself, seeking to destroy everything the world ever knew. The Excavation mission then got either shut down or changed into something even bigger than before.
The Society (and I'm just gonna call it that from this moment on), as we know, is run by the high and mighty of Gavel, but we never see them, which might imply that they are either hidden really deep underground or somewhere... In an other province. 'Cause you know, the king might not have to be in his kingdom in order to rule it, right? But let's get back to the point. As we think, the Society is looking for means to gain control over various elements of power, be it the crystals, monsters... Or time. Remember how the path to Amadel is hidden within some caverns with Ancients, who could have been driven mad by the Eye and Time Magic? That's gonna be relevant, don't forget it.
What if WE actually did find the source of magic hidden within the concept of Time, or at least some clues hinting to its existence? They just didn't have enought resources and/or people to uncoveri this secret. But Amadel got destroyed, and with him, the current WynnExcavation.
BUT, seeing this as a great waste of resources and money, the "high and mighty" could give a second life to the project. Since they are mostly looking for power, they might already know about the Eye and the whole Time thing, which apparently exists all around the land (Craftsmas Chaos, Lord of the Clock, the Clock Set, Time Door etc.). And considering that the Time Door has opened, what if the Society had already found a way to unravel a way to gaining power again.
Because everyone in the Wynncraft thinks the WE is down, they might be not thinking about the Society anymore at all, which gives it a opportunity before us, the players, find out what the Society has been doing all this time: digging the whole fuck out of Dern to find the Eye.
But remember how Placardus said "We are the eye. We see all. Be gone."? This is implying that they knew about the Eye's existence the whole time. However, he could have just exxagerated the Society's knowledge about the Eye, for the sole purpose of scaring the player. The other theory, which I believe a lot more, is that the Society is based around some mad cult of people who worsip the Eye and await its coming. To make it come a lot earlier, they seek means to awake it from its possible sleep, while also searching for ways to gain more power so that they at least have some chance if the Eye goes on rampage and starts destroying everything, much like Amadel, but a lot scarier.
Basically, what I am trying to say, is that the Society is a group of fanatics driven by the lust for power, and that they all worship the Eye, the Time and all alike. They ARE going to make a major comeback, mark my words...

I think WynnExcavation was the prologue to the story of Gavel: A world of power hungry decay that cares little for the lives of the innocent.
