Let me clarify just one thing: it's impossible for the key to be a weapon/armor piece, since the stats on those are Always completely randomized. Since they count as the "lore" text in redstoning, which has to be completely the same to have any effect, these things are off the keys' list.
Plus people have already thrown some Wishes down the grave, to no avail.
And if that wasn't enough, Selvut already said that you wouldn't have to sacrifice any piece of gear in order to enter any kind of secret doors.

Selvut has said several times you can't yet access the tomb (but don't tell anyone else, this mass legendary genocide is hilarious)

The key will most likely be dropped from Ohms when you defeat him inside his lab

We need to find that memento, and its not the boots. Possibly we need to wait for another update? I mean we only just found Gale's Grave after a map push and we've been trying to find it for ages. Perhaps we need to wait a bit more to fully solve this mystery.

 

I have confirmed that the item necessary to open the secret room that px spoiled and the idiots glitched into is not yet obtainable.

So true. Everyone is just dropping the best items (and the rarest at that) into a hopper, never to be seen again.

But you know what would be worse? If someone accidentally dropped a Legendary.

 

px is a moderator, and can go on the build server. Thusly, he spoiled himself on the secret, and spoiled the existence of the secret room. It isn't like you wouldn't have figured it out on your own, however...but then some idiots decided to glitch through the wall to see what was behind it. As it was meant to be unreachable as of right now, however, their curiosity has only netted them a close eye and a reduction on Soul Points, as we didn't even put in an exit.

the door is obvious, it literally screams ''i am a door'' because of the pattern (same as any dungeon) and the fact that something has to be dropped in the soul sand
