[issue] Morality Of Traders

I am aware this is a trade market, but I want to put it here so more traders can see this. If this won't work, just move the thread.

Morality of traders

How often do you see this:

"Auction ends when the bid is high enough"

"I won't sell if the price is too low"

"I can cancel the auction if I'm not satisfied with the bid"

Like seriously, if you have a minimum price in mind, just put that as the starting bid.

What's is the point of making the starting bid 1LE if you're gonna cancel it if it doesn't reach 32LE.

Make the starting bid 32LE if you're just going to cancel the auction if it doesn't reach 32LE. Makes everyone's lives easier.

A lot of people, and I mean, a LOT, will accept bids from others when someone before them has clearly offered the buyout.

Some even blatantly INCREASE the buyout if they see that a bid war is happening.

This is incredibility disgusting and shows just how low people can get for money.

I really hope you can all have some common sense and respect your buyers. They are customers, who deserve to get what they are promised.

Hell, if you did this in real life, chances are you'll get sued. But seeing this is a game people think it's alright to exploit the fact that you can't get arrested and do everything they can to make as much money as possible, even though it has completely gone beyond the point of 'trustworthy'.

Please, just have some morality and do what you promise. Stop putting 1LE as starting bids if you won't be 'satisfied' with it. Stop increasing the buyout each time someone offers the previous buyout. Stop being overall greedy on the trade market.

I hope this raises at least some awareness.

the point in not putting the price as what you want is because if you put it as lower people will be more likely to bid and get the price higher than what it would have been

 

This is an interesting thread, and ill probably agree with a lot of it.

If the price doesn't get high enough you cancel it anyway. If people are willing to bid higher, then why make the starting bid less than what you want.

That wasn't me... I only did a Silent Auction for Leo (which you bought (which I reserved for like two weeks)).

 

well, the first point that you made is more of the draw people into the auction so they can get into the bidding spirit and bid more
i dont like it, but it seems to work :>

 

Let's run a simulation:

Player A, Player B and Player C see an auction for a Rare Apple (worth 100 dollars) for 10 dollars.

The players immediately start bidding, until Player A and Player B stop at 150 dollars because they don't think it's worth it anymore.

Player D, Player E and Player F see an auction for a Rare Apple (worth 100 dollars) for 100 dollars.

The players think to themselves, do I want this? Eventually they think it's worth it, and the price goes to 150 dollars because they don't think it's worth it anymore.

Every player has a limit, a limit to how much they think something is worth. The starting bid does nothing to change the worth of the item in their eyes. All it does is make them more disappointed when the auction gets cancelled.

Also, the 'bidding spirit', if people wanted the item, they would bid on it .-.

As long as their peak price range isn't met, chances are they will keep bidding until only one person is left (which is the player who values the item at the highest worth).

 

I can see where you're coming from, but since it's not very "real" they take it as more of a competition and continue to bid higher. They also need to generate more attention in their thread, whether by the amount of replies, views, making the title look cool, etc. because I at least know I've skipped over some very good items in shops that aren't very famous or looked at. Or maybe I'm wrong and a lot of people just don't know the price for items XD
