I go over to the broken thing

 

I mutter a heating spell to heat up my bed a bit.

 

"That's cool and all, but how does..."
I shove my blade through.
"It only keep me in?"

 

You hear the hatchling move closer to the doorway as you drift off.

...
In the morning, everything's as you left it. The hatchling is still asleep next to your door.

"I'm using it."

 

I yawn, and go off to my study room, when I feel some strange force tugging on the power of the well.

 

"Goddamn magic."
I pull my blade back in.
"In that case, what do you need these pillars for? To make sure the captive know his or her boundaries?"
While saying this, I walk over to a pillar.
I get my blade ready for a swing, but I'm holding it more like if I was wielding an axe and was about to chop down a tree.
As hard as I can, I swing the blade into the pillar, making sure to stand out of the way of the rebound.

 

"Well, to be honest I don't think anyone's tried tranquilizing a dragon before..."

 

Whatever's causing this, you can't identify it.
Could you possibly be using too much of its power in too short of a time?

"So you don't die. You're not exactly... where you were. Nyre moved in to kill you, so you're currently... well... let's just say that if I were to release you now, you'd disintegrate. Unless you like plasma-level temperatures, in which case you're welcome to come out any time."

The blade just bounces. The voice grunts.

"Is he going to wake up?"
"It's not poison, he should."
"Why was he angry at me?"
"Reflet could help you there more than I could. Probably your hood."

The two of us just kind of stare at Yhrey, concerned.

 

"So what? I just sit in here?"
I sheath my sword.

 

No, I feel that there is some force distracting me. I have used the same amount of power many times before, and it was fine.

 

"Maybe it wasn't just a tranquiliser... whatever it is, it may be about to cause us a LOT of trouble."

 

At any rate, you're unable to trace it. The well doesn't help you find anything, either.

"Well, it wasn't poison... At least, none that mother had me read about. It seemed more like a tranquilizer." Ihra mutters, looking at you like you're accusing her of something.

"I'm hoping it doesn't." I step back further.

 

"I don't mean poison. I mean that it could do something like turn Yhrey against us, unless that counts as a poison."

 

I just go back to my daily tasks, once again studying texts long-forgotten.

 

"That's... a scary thought. One, it's a dragon, and two, angering it would anger Reflet. I'd rather not get immortals against me." I sound a bit sheepish.

The dragon ends up finding you. It tries to scramble up onto your desk, but makes more scratches than altitude.

 

"Are you going to answer my question or not?"

"Ideally not. If you're able to blink, you may see the escape route here. You'll recover to where you were standing before, the only difference is that you won't almost be getting impaled. If I give you many more hints, your pursuer might be able to follow."

 

"Well, I can't blink in either way, I don't use magic, and I have no eyelids.

So that leaves me to rot in here."

 

"Then I'll temporarily blind you and hope you recover."

Before you have a chance to respond, the room flashes with a light that makes you see nothing but black.

...And a gateway.

 

I check to see if I still have my sword.

I walk towards the gateway (or try).
