Murder Mystery 1: Banker [solved]

[CASE SOLVED]

Man. I haven't seen these in forever. As such, I feel I should revive these. Note that I don't remember everything, so this mystery may not be up to par with the pre-9/7 ones.

Spoiler: Full story of murder

At around 10:25, the banker was walking down the seedy street to go home, when he was ambushed by the warrior and assassin, who both wanted to get in on profit, as the banker had been carrying a bag full of emeralds. The assassin used the spell Multi-Hit, but in the process, his blade fell off and sunk into one of the wounds. At around this time, Rawb had seen the fighting, and made a beeline for the hotel, when the warrior used Uppercut, dealing a decisive blow to the banker, leaving the banker with a large gaping wound, which the banker would bleed to death from. The warrior chased after Rawb, while the assassin slipped into the alleyway. The warrior, however, was unable to catch up to Rawb.

Place of Death: Seedy-looking street, near his house.
Cause of Death: Bleed to death
Wounds?: Large open wound at back. Several scorch marks around wound. Several cuts around body. Some large, some minor.

Bloody Knife: Found in one of cuts. Does not have a handle. Looks very poorly made. Has been identified too many times.
Stats of knife: +25% Spell Damage and +10% Loot Bonus. Very fast attack speed. Roughly 1-11 damage

Spoiler: Testimonies

Rawb-Well, at around 9:00 PM, I was with the Traveling merchant. We talked and traded for about a while. Some time after I decided I had enough and wanted to get back to my hotel, I heard shouts and the sound of fighting. The sounds came from down the street. When I got back to my hotel, it was around 11:00 PM.

Traveling Merchant-Me and Rawb were in an alley that directed from the seedy street. After Rawb left at around 10:25 PM, I heard sounds of screaming and fighting while I was packing my things. I ran down the street to take a look, but by the time I got there, the banker was already lying on the ground, dead. I think I got there at around 10:34 PM. I also saw a shadow disappear into an alley.

Item Buyer-I was in my home recounting the day's events when I heard shouting and fighting outside at around 10:29 PM. I got worried and looked outside after I was sure all the sounds stopped. There, I saw the Traveling Merchant holding a knife and the dead man on the ground in front of him!

Poor Assasin-I was sitting in an alley doing nothing at around the time of the murder. However, I took a look when I heard screams, and I saw, clear as day, the old Mage and Rawb were murdering the banker! I called for help, and a warrior came and said that he would report the murder as soon as possible. The time was around 11:00 PM.

Warrior-I was heading home, when I heard screams of help. I ran over to the poor assassin, and he pointed me to the crime. I saw the old Mage running into an alley, and Rawb running away to his hotel, and Rawb was holding a knife! I gave chase to Rawb, and I managed to cut his arm, but he slashed at my face and got away. *warrior shows scar* by the time I got back to the assassin, it was around 11:00 PM.

Old Mage-I do not know what you are talking about. I was having tea with the Item Buyer at around 10:30 PM. After that, I went outside and found a dead body on the ground. I saw someone holding what looked like a spear running away, and I saw someone disappear into an alley. My guess is that the Traveling Merchant robbed the banker and then killed him. However, he probably had an accomplice; maybe Rawb?

Feel free to question any of the suspects to ask about certain things, and feel free to take a look around the body and examine it as you please.

Rawb: When did you leave to go to the hotel? When did you hear the fighting? And where were you when the fighting started? Can you show me both of your arms?
Traveling Merchant: Can you make out the shadow?
Item Buyer: Did you have tea with the Old Mage?
Poor Assassin: Are you sure that happened? Did you see someone run into an alley? When did the fighting took place? Do you have a dagger?
Warrior: Can you think of anything else? When did the fighting took place?
Old Mage: Why do you think that they would kill the banker?

Banker: Let's take a look at your large wound and your cuts. What else is on your body?

Notes:

• If the Poor Assassin and Warrior's story is right, then there is 30 minutes of conflict.
• It makes sense because Rawb got to his hotel at 11:00PM
• But the cut that Warrior got couldn't be fully healed over a day. This could either be important or unimportant.
• Only way to confirm this fight is to check Rawb's arms.
• The Old Mage is trying to making me redirect to suspect someone else.
• The only way to confirm that he is innocent is with the Item Buyer.
• The Item Buyer's story conflicts the Warrior and the Poor Assassin because he thinks that the Traveling Merchant killed the banker.
• But the Traveling Merchant's story didn't conflict with their story because he saw a shadow fleeing into an alley. The Warrior said the Old Mage ran into an alley.
• The Old Mage's story kinda goes along with their story because the Warrior ran away to chase Rawb and someone disappeared into an alleyway.
• The time of the fighting took place around the same time in the stories, with the exception of the Poor Assassin and the Warrior's story.

• The wounds on the Banker's body is different, so two suspects could be involved in this.
• The knife made the cuts, so it have to be used by someone who couldn't do magic and not an expert in any other weapon.
• The Old Mage, and the Warrior (Spear) is removed for Suspect 1.
• The open would with scorch marks could indicate magic, since no other suspect can use magic...
• The Old Mage is likely Suspect 2.

This is probably the longest post I made.

 

I want to look at how long it would regularly take to get from the alley on the seedy street to Rawb's hotel.

My notes:

Rawb left five minutes before the crime, according to the Traveling Merchant

 

Rawb-About 10-20 minutes on average.

Rawb-I think I left around 10:25? I'm not sure what time I heard the fighting, since I don't have a watch. I'm not exactly sure where I was since it was pretty dark, but the fighting was down the street. *Rawb shows his arms* *They are perfectly normal*

Traveling Merchant-Well, it was really hard to see. In all honesty, I'm not really sure. One thing is for sure though, the figure was human, not villager.

Item Buyer-Not really. He invited himself in, and I made him some tea. I think he mistook me for another person.

Assassin-Yes, I am very, very, VERY sure that happened. No, I did not see anyone run into an alley. The fighting? *Assassin ponders* uhm, 10:35? No, I lost my dagger ages ago. I've been trying to find one here in the alleys.

Warrior-*Warrior ponders deeply, trying to remember* Not much, that's all I can remember as of now. The time of the fighting? Why, 10:29 of course! All of a sudden the warrior looks shocked.

Old Mage-well, I believe the banker had a debt to the Traveling Merchant, and I think Rawb got in the action because the traveling merchant promised him some Alga. That Rawb, he needs to stop his addiction. It's ridiculous. *Old Mage rants*

You find nothing much. However, you can notice a blade stuck into one of his cuts. It's very deep though, and there's no handle.

Banker: Interesting...let's see if I can further inspect this knife.

Rawb: Do you have an addiction of Alga?
Traveling Merchant: Does the Banker owe a debt to you.
Item Buyer: Why's that?
Poor Assassin: OK...no more questions for now.
Warrior: Why were you shocked all of the sudden?
Old Mage: ...Can you please stop ranting? I got questions: According to the Item Buyer, you let yourself in for tea. Why did you do that?

Notes:

• Rawb's arms showed no damage. The Warrior's fight was false.
• Shadow figure looks human according to Traveling Merchant
• Was the Old Mage trying to establish an alibi?
• Three "very's", could the Poor Assassin be lying?
• Poor Assassin's time is a little off. This is probably unimportant.
• Why was the Warrior shocked? Is he hiding something?
• The Old Mage's story could gives me some leads. Only one way to find out.
• Poor Assassin is less likely to be Suspect 1.
• Old Mage seems more likely to be Suspect 2.

Rawb-I wouldn't call it an addiction...

Item Buyer-He's an old man. His eyesight is probably poor.
Warrior-Ah...nothing at all. Am I done?
Mage-Well, he told me yesterday that I could come into his house for tea anytime. The Mage starts spacing out.

 

Rawb: What would you call it?
Traveling Merchant: No more questions for now.
Item Buyer: No more questions for now.
Warrior: For now, yes.
Old Mage: Sir, are you spacing out?

 

Rawb-Uhm...compulsion!
Mage-What? Oh, nothing at all. Just reminiscing in some memories. Who would've thought that you had to destroy a tree to get across the ravine!

 

Rawb: Sir, I think you need to go to the doctor.
Old Mage: What?

Mage-Huh? Oh don't mind me.

Rawb: What occupation do you have? (Don't know what class you're in for this story, sorry)
Old Mage: How many fingers am I holding up? (Holds up 3 fingers in arm reach) What about now? (Holds up 1 finger about 10 meters away.)
Warrior: You're not done yet. May I see your weapon of choice?
Poor Assassin: If you need a weapon, you could always ask another person for one. Can't you?
Item Buyer: Are you certain that you saw the Traveling Merchant?
Traveling Merchant: Did you take anything from the Banker when he was dead? Like a dagger, for instance?

Banker: What else do you have on your person?

Go to a Item Identifier and ask him if he could re-identify the blade.

Notes:
1. Smaller cuts around the body would indicate a fight from a bladed weapon. Something that either the Assassin or Warrior would use.
2. If the Old Mage did see a spear, that would indicate that the Warrior killed him. (If this is applying Wynncraft rules)
2.a. If the Old Mage is short-sighted, then that would either indicate a long weapon, aka Spear or Dagger, or that he is really blind. It really depends on how short-sighted he is...
3. If traveling merchant says yes, then that would indicate either he was working together with the Item Buyer, or that the Traveling Merchant didn't actually kill him, just grabbed the dagger to see worth. Which would explain why there was only the blade in the banker.
4. If the Warrior is missing the blade of his spear, then that would indicate that he killed the Banker.
5. If the Poor Assassin says yes, then that would indicate that he could, in theory, grabbed a dagger, and then killed him.
6. The burn marks could have come from either a mage, or, more importantly, a red powder weapon. If the latter was true, then that would indicate a richer weapon. Though that would contradict the dagger in the Banker.

 

Banker: Hey, whoever is here! Give me the place where the Banker lives!
Bloody Knife: Who can I find to help me inspect this knife.
Seedy-Looking Street: What else is here?

Old Mage: Do you have a staff. If so, what can it do?
Rawb: No more questions for now.

Notes:

• If Rawb is innocent, I will make him go to the doctor to help with his addiction
• What was the Old Mage doing by going across a ravine?
• I am going to try to inspect this murder further, by searching the Banker's home, inspecting the knife further, and looking around the seedy street.

 

I'll make Rawb go to a mental hospital, innocent or not.

The ravine thing was supposed to be him spacing out. It's meaningless

Rawb-Occupation? I refuse to reveal to you my business. However, it may come as a surprise, but I am a Dark Wizard that happens to also be an assassin.
Mage-Uh...3? And uhm...I'm not sure. None? I'm sorry, my eyesight was partly destroyed when a gigantic creature made of quartz shot me in the eye with a laser.
Warrior-Well, as you can see, it is a very fine piece of equipment. I was able to buy it off in Almuj for a hefty price, but certainly worth it! *He shows you a finely crafted spear. It courses with magical abilities*
Assassin-Huh. I've never actually thought of that. I always just bought a cheap one or rummaged through the trash for one.
Item Buyer-Yes! He was holding a blade too!
Traveling Merchant-No. I'm very superstitious, and I believe that taking something that belongs to the dead or taking something that killed is bad luck.

Banker- Nothing else is in his body. Just the blade of a weapon.

Item Identifier-I'm sorry, but this weapon has been identified too many times. [Clue Found!]

Voice from the sky: He lives beside the Item Buyer's house! [Banker was murdered near his house]
Voice from the sky: The seedy looking street doesn't have anything of much interest. Just some low quality houses and beggars.

Mage: Yes, I certainly have a staff! It is very rare; some might even call it legendary! It is a relic wand, found in the middle of nowhere in the ocean. It can harness the power of all of the elements. (Technically, Mage is level 100, so why he uses the wand is beyond me)

Rawb-Ok good.

Old Mage was referencing that in the starting valley in Wynncraft, you have to hit a tree to make a bridge across a Ravine.

Reason: Getting across the ravine, he destoryed the tree, and a branch fell down on the ground and rebounded to the banker, and the branch was in a shape of a dagger,
it was a wooden dagger

I did not think of the first one, but no, he did not do suicide.

The Mage is just referencing the starting area post Gavel where you have to knock a tree over to serve as a bridge over a ravine.
