No grip and pommel. If I were to strike a shield or maybe clash with another sword, a lot of returned force would go to my hands. Also the grip is wood, wood sucks shit at absorbing shock, not to mention that you are also pommel-less. And that is especially bad with such a short grip, in fact that sword should be two-handed. Though the grip is so small that you can't comfortably hold it with two hands, and it's too heavy to be effective with one hand. The design is really flawed, but I think it still looks cool.

Just google search swords, or medieval swords. Weapons that are long, thin, sharp, and simple tend to be the most realistic and effective. If you want to have a cool design, make a cool looking grip, pommel, guards, or maybe have finely detailed parts of the blade. Maybe have letters inscribed into the sword?

Nope. The more you know about the subject the cooler you can make and customize it.
