    Does the set bonus only happen if you have the whole set or does just 1 piece do it?

    Not exactly, jester set is still good with better id's. Currently, the max for xp and loot is 33 on each piece and wearing 1/3 gives you -25, 2/3 gives you -50 (i think), and 3/3 gives you -70 (i think). It's still really good with the set bonus and the other stats it gives you, like extra stat points and mana steal.
